even if chelsea want to sell i think theres too many hurdles for us to get him.

first hurdle -high transfer fee
second hurdle - high wages
third hurdle - he will be wanted by loads of clubs outbidding us and offering more.

imo the only chance we have of seeing lukaku in an everton shirt next season is if chelsea keep him and loan him out again + we get into europe.

I don't think a loan is on the cards, he will have 18 months on his contract this summer so will be able to talk to clubs about a free transfer next January. It's decision time for Chelsea, if they want him to stay they need him to sign a new contract or risk he goes for nothing. Lukaku will I'm sure seek assurances about first team opportunities, it's unlikely mou will pamper to this so I think he will be sold. Our chance of signing him really depends on whether he wants to come back, as others have said on here it's unlikely that many teams playing above our level will be able to offer him the first choice striker role, being in Europe will definitely help our cause.

he's not on high wages. it was quoted earlier, no clue what it was but it really isnt ostentatiously high.

I'd love him to stay, and BBC Radio Merseyside are saying that we have fresh hope of keeping him permanently, but not much more detail than that.

Perhaps it's just an interpretation of Mourinho's comments.

I'd love him here, but will it come off? Not so sure. We'd have to stump up £20m, I reckon.

His contract will have two years left in the summer & not 18 months also his age will be a factor .

In effect Chelsea can allow his contract to run its course then within I think 7 days of the end of season 2015/16 they can say that they want him to sign another contract(on equal or better terms) or take up any options re contract extensions..
The player doesn't have to sign the new contract but any club signing then him would have to pay compensation. The trouble is that the level of compensation is set by an independent panel after the player has signed if a fee cant agreed.
So in effect he could run the contract down, to sign for Everton if the clubs cant agree a fee then a panel will set the market rate and that takes no account of the clubs ability to pay it.
Chelsea hold all the cards

He's worth £20 million. Just not to us. We need to buy 2 or 3 players with that kind of cash.

Disagree, we will never get anywhere without a world class striker, and Lukaku has the potential to be one.

£20m is a bargain for a 20 year old with his monumental potential and all his best years ahead of him!

So how do you address the other areas of the squad? A new centre back, centre mid and winger wont be bought with £5m, and that's assuming we'd have anything left afterward.

But would spending that money be at the cost of improving other areas of the pitch, causing us to slip down the table slightly? I'd love him to sign but after seeing him for half a season I'm not sure if it would be wise to spend that kind of money on one player who is a work in progress.

Striker is the one position we have always been crying out for a genuine top class player. And as much as Lukaku had hit a baron spell and not been himself, he will always guarantee you goals, double figures at least, EVERY season.

Just because we invest in the Striker position this summer doesn't mean other positions cant also be addressed, either in the summer if we somehow manage to hit the jackpot of champions league, or in another window.

And should continue to utilise the loan market and other avenues like the clubs youth setup to fill in other gaps until we can invest and purchase players that may actually push us forward.

No point spending a little on each position just buying squad players, if you still dont have a top striker to win you games.

I get your point, but I'd rather gamble on this Batshuayi lad and then get another midfielder in who can unlock a defence, i.e. Tadic. I'd take them two and a cheaper backup instead of just Lukaku. I get the feeling Martinez will go all out for Lukaku like you're saying, and his back up plan will be to do what I'm suggesting.

I know what you're saying mate, to be honest were still a fair distance from where we need to be squad wise, but I just feel Lukaku would be the first chance of a genuine top class striker weve had in a long time, too good to pass up if we have the chance.

Just a shame that it would most probably come at the price of not being able to add the quality players that we also need elsewhere on the pitch.
