Calum McManaman

In fairness, I don't think he is better than either Pienaar or Mirallas, therefor to pay over the top money for him would be stupid. I don't think he'd add much more quality to the squad. We've got to be showing more ambition than Calum McManaman.

It's a squad game. The better your squad the better chance you have of finishing higher in the league. Pretty obvious to anyone that but saying things like we need more ambition that Mcmanaman is daft. He's 22 (9 years younger than Pienaar), pacy, direct and can beat a man. Being able to bring players like him off the bench is something we have seriously lacked for a long time.

I doubt many Chelsea fans wanted Victor Moses when they have the likes of Hazard, Mata and Oscar but he's had a part to play for them. It's all about the squad.

Agreed. McManaman, Mirallas, Pienaar and Barkley would give us some really good variety in the wide positions. N'Zogbia went to Villa for £9.5m, so £5m-ish could be the ballpark figure for Callum.

Knee jerking here is ridiculous. I'm not saying the lad can't be a good player but he's played about 10 games for Wigan this season in the league and played 90 minutes once. Remember Raheem Stirling at all? He was scaring the crap out of teams for a month or two and now has fell off the radar. Maybe he'll turn out good as well or maybe the Scooby Doo ghost will catch him. McManamanis not near Mirallas' level right now and he's not worth real money until he does something, nor is he Wigan's best midfielder.

Correct, i genuinely feel that it's the players on your bench that determine the overall quality of a team.

United - Hernandez, Jones, Young, Welbeck, Nani.
City - Maicon, Milner, Dzeko, Garcia, Sinclair.
Chelsea - Ivanovic, Torres, Oscar, Moses, Marin.

Those three for example, there is not a player there that I wouldn't gladly have in the Everton first team.

Until we can look at our bench and see a couple of genuine game changers, we'll not challenge those top three.

You must be joking?

N'Zogbia had 12 months remaining on his contract, had put in a transfer request and had Whelan over a barrel, that reflected in the price. Talented boy that one but he's been a wrong'un ever since his Newcastle days.

Wigan would not sell for McManaman for £5m, it just would not happen. Not now.

He's a good player. Doesn't matter how many games he's played or not played. He's got ability. But like many player before him the goodison crowd won't like him because he is unpredictable. As soon as he tries something and it doesn't come off he would get booed.

I would love to see him at Everton though.

I can't ever recall that happening.

Well he hasn't played for our first team Eric. What I mean is unpredictable players seem to get... I don't know... a hard time by some of our crowd.

Really? We haven't had many unpredictable players in recent years due to Moyes but we had Drenthe last season. I never heard the crowd get pissed off with him because he tried something that didn't come off. Whenever he got stick it was usually for throwing himself to the ground like a tit.

Victor Moses went to Chelsea for just over £10m having cost them £2.5m and playing 74 times for them. McManaman is only just establishing himself, his goalscoring record is very modest and we're not a CL side. £5m would be a fair offer.
