Leon Osman - The Cahill Demise

He was fine with the ball yesterday. He just shouldn't be playing where he is. The closer to goal the better. This isn't news.

He wasn't the worst player on the pitch yesterday by a long way. Stick a Gibson or Fellaini next to him and he'd play a lot better. Good little player is Osman.

Again, Leon Osman left me scratching my head this weekend.

He has shown, over the years, that he has fantastic attributes as a skillful and tidy player.

But is that enough anymore?

This season he has looked seriously off the pace. His once so delicate first touch seems to have alluded him. The tiny burst of pace to turn a man, non existant.

The question I raise here is - Are we seeing a similar downward spiral to the one of Timmy Cahill?

I know it is quite early into the season, but so far, he has done nothing to make me think otherwise.

I also have taken into consideration the fact that he has had the 'priveledge' of partnering Neville in midfield, but his personal game has reeked of a man, not able to dictate a game on the big stage anymore.

Was best player on pitch against QPR, only one who could control it and pass it.

He's a solid player who gives it his best.
He's definitely not a liability, and while he's not one of the star players of the team, I think his work ethic definitely gives us something else worth having.

Been Osman's biggest fan over the years and feel like he's been wrongly scapegoated over the years but he has been truly gash so far this season.

Without Gidson and Fellaini available, Mr Moyes obviously feels that he hasnt a better option.

I would prefer a formation to suit the abilities of the players available, just needs a little tweaking.

Rather than playing side by side, Neville should sit deeper and allow Osman to be more attacking. Neither naturally track back an awful lot, but more seem to be chasing back a yard behind!

Although to be fair against Southampton I think it was, he was the best man on the park. But yeah, he hasn't had the best season.

he wasn't in a position to take on players at defensive midfielder, if he did and he made mistakes it would leave us exposed in the back.

i think he can play there fine, but he needs a better partner in the centre than neville.

without pienaar suspended for the derby, and considering fellaini will probably still be out, i think he should start just behind jelavic. its not ideal, but we may need to play neville and hitzelsperger in the middle, mirallas and naismith out on the wing, since theres no way in hell moyes will opt for a proper 4-4-2

Clever player going forward but gets overrun doing defensive work, looked like his legs had gone along with Neville's in that game.

Play him next to Gibson and we will see a completely different player. Said it on another forum, Neville is making him look incredibly gash.

This.
He is taking an awful lot of flack, when actually it's Neville that's costing us. He is a smart, tidy footballer with good vision. He'd seem to improve even if we just put Heitinga next to him. Not sure why Moyes persists with Nev anymore.

He never had pace ffs.

He has had 2 bad knee injuries, and is stil playing prem football at 31.

He is not Iniesta, so lets burn him!!!!
