2025/26 David Moyes

No, you misunderstand.

Stability itself is not the desired outcome. Trophies and success are the desired outcome.

But are we likely to do all that after the last five years of abject crap?

No.

So we need this period of stability to use a springboard for future success. I fail to see why some people cannot fathom this.

The question is what does stability look like and how long should it be allowed to go on for? For example, there is still a real prospect that we finish the season with similar points and placing as last year (which you could define as stability) but compared to the second half of last season we appear to have gone backwards.

Having spent a little more last year (and appreciate we have been woefully underfunded in the last few years), would any of the fanbase expected to have matched the second half of last season or even a little more progress than has been seen? Given the quality of football on display and the fact we have chosen or not been able to use a lot of the players purchased, this is where the frustration lies.

I didn’t jump on the bandwagon when we were knocked out of both cups cheaply (FA cup, we did have players at Afcon and some injuries but Caribao Cup there was no excuse) because I wanted to see where we’d finish, but given only four games left and we are in 11th, the season is ending up a damp squib. I do think there does need to be some serious reflection on where this season has gone off the rails. I don’t have a lot of confidence currently that next season is going to be an awful lot better. This summers transfer window is now crucial.

I worry that the longer we keep Moyes and the more he shapes the squad, the tougher the transition will be once he’s gone. Some people see him as a “springboard” to something better, but if we end up with a squad built purely for his style, it’s going to make that next step difficult. That’s why I hope TFG and the recruitment team keep pushing for the younger profile in their signings.

You cant count last season. We had 17 points by mid january due to Dyche. Everton accumulated 31 points in the same number of games as they did with the previous manager. Thats why the points tally under him since his return puts him around 7th. Why should he take the blame for Dyche.
With 12 points to still play for i'll be disappointed if we dont reach 50 points at least. Havent done that since Ancelotti 6 years ago.
Moyes isnt the answer anymore but some of the drivel about him in this thread is exhausting lol

I was ambivalent about re-appointing Moyes, but I'll give him credit for steadying the ship and helping the club to look up the table rather than down for most of the season. But as things stand, I feel like he represents the past and we need to move on. Whether TFG share that vision or have bigger ambitions is another matter. Of course there's an element of 'be careful what you wish for' (as Spurs and West Ham can attest), but I don't see the point of signing mainly ageing players and keeping youngsters on the bench if it all achieves is mid-table mediocrity and early cup exits.

What agent in their right mind would encourage any young talent to sign for a team who won't play or develop them? The statement about it 'not doing any harm' for Rohl to sit on the bench was one of the most assinine things I've heard from a Premiership manager. So: thanks for everything DM, but if you're not going to change your ways, please can you make way for someone who wants to take this club forwards rather than sideways?
