2025/26 David Moyes

Just don’t think we have the players yet mate, the two full backs were shown up today, Myko shouldn’t be here next season and Jake is a developing physical centre back, getting badly found out at right back now. Both are being targeted - Neto & Garnacho mullard them today, that’s before you talk about them not managing the overloads. You can’t keep it tight when 50% of your defence isn’t up to snuff.
The other difference was speed of attacking transition, theirs was so quick, ours was so slow, Grealish and Illy stand on the ball too much IMO and progression is slow. Last difference was quality of finishing they scored two chances we missed about 10 during the same period first half. They are just a better quality team. We don’t have the players yet.

I agree we need to dig in against Arsenal and raise the tension, Theyl blink other pressure - the fact we’re at home as well…..
Which is why it was suicidal to go toe-to-toe with Chelsea first half.

As for Chelsea overall though: they've been battered by Leeds last week. Let's not make Chelsea into a fantastically different level team.

Yes, the FBs are an issue, but that's because Moyes chose to overexpose them. JOB tasked with overlapping Ndiaye high up the pitch and then get back?!

Pffft!

They aren’t a wonderful teams, but they have some wonderful players, higher quality by far than us. I actually thought their defence was poor and we did well to penetrate - but of course butchered the finish’s of what we created.

Ive watched the full backs carefully this year, we’ve played how we have today against everyone but the RS. In that game and last year we played with a back 5 at times with the winger tucking in front if Jake - this season we haven’t done that.

Is it a good thing to be that open? We’ve accumulated more points doing it, won more game - but when you come up against high quality teams you may get Mullard - like Spurs, Newcastle and Chelsea - all three games our full backs got targeted and Mullard.

Maybe we could pivot in these games - but then people were disappointed vs the RS when we played conservatively.

The knives to a gunfight rhetoric, considering we are owned by a billionaire family and friends, is frankly hollow.

This is the second time in two weeks he has parroted this tripe. Do your job or do one.
But it's true. Chelsea's squad is worth way more than ours. I don't understand why you expect an inferior squad to beat a superior squad?

All down to managerial judgement mate. You cant play the same way all the time against different opposition. But the manager cant do changes in formation...which is why wing backs wont be entertained either.

I actually think we're playing at times against Moyes' wishes and instincts: his way is to back off playing if we lose a few and go direct. This season though he looks like a manager who's been told that isn't the football we want to adopt and is acting to orders. Probably not, but I am amazed he's stuck to playing with a more open play sort of game...dictated of course by the Ndiaye-KDH-Grealish triumverite.

2 out of 3 of them not being here for a while might see him reverting to a more long ball game again?

Have to say I’ve been surprised he hasn’t been more pragmatic to. I’ve put it down to him being here for the short term and wanting to get up the table quickly, I actually think hel stay on after this contract and has a point to prove to TFG. In a way he needed to be something more competitive after the years under Moshiri and Dyche, it needed new grooming optically.

Personally I still think the squad is limited, I mean what do you do at full backs that we aren’t doing or up front - we just don’t have the players and we could nt do it all one summer. We’re getting found by teams who’ve spent what we have in the summer every summer first the last 5+ years.

When will people realise that the posters that hide their posting history are RS?
Some people restrict who can view their posting history because they have strange stalkerish old men harassing them.

I guarantee that 99% of those who posted on this forum back in 2013 felt that way about Moyes and said so at the time.

A man who'd received everything from this club and its supporters and who took that and threw it in our faces, and he was rightly called fit to burn for it.

You cant feel like that and then bury it just because he's been employed here again. It sort of underlines why we've won nothing for years. We have a fanbase who'll accept mediocrity even from a man who shat on us from a great height. No top club's fans accept a man like that back. It's all about having standards and being consistent for me.

He was and remains persona non grata for me and I'll raise a glass the day he slings his hook...again.
He's right about this tbf. Broken clocks and all that.

For a kick off he could be playing the best RB at the club Garner at RB; and he could and should have handed Aznou a chance to impress at LB.

The players, I suspect, are there to do a more than useful shift at FB. Yes, we need a specialist RB, but we can do better than starting JOB (an excellent CB but not a RB) and that Ukrainian nightmare.

Fair point on Garner, I like him there myself, particularly because he can invert in to midfield - not realistic though given we don’t have a midfield this month - which illustrates my point on the squads limits. Garner is prob our covering, right and left back.

I’ve watched Aznou in the underage teams, not ready at all mate.

Disagree on Aznou, not that he's ready, just that he's not that far off. Just needs a bit more strength and defensive nous.

With regards to underage teams he was regularly absolutely running games from left back for Bayern's U21s a) when he was younger and b) at a higher level than we've seen him play for ours. He's a serious talent who isn't that far off imo
