2025/26 David Moyes

I dunno. They never officially released the duration of his contract. Media went with 2.5, but the club never published details - even though they did with Lampard and Dyche. I think he came back for 1.5. That would allow him to rescue us and buy time. If that's the case, it made sense not to publicise the duration as the players will not be aware that the manager is a lame duck as he enters his last 9 months.

Seriously, Moyes's job was done here when he rescued us. The Friedkins could argue giving him a season on top of that bought them time to get the backroom boys in place and "stabilise". It also made the job lucrative enough for Moyes to accept.

I fully expect him to leave in the summer if he gets that far. If he doesn't, I think these owners will be flipping the club within five years.
Do you really believe that the length of a manager's contract is something that can be kept secret from the players?

Whatever the length is it'll be common knowledge among everyone at Finch Farm.

Of course it can. If the leadership of the club want it kept quiet, who's going to gab? I doubt something like this goes through Helen in HR.

No, not yet—but the clock is ticking. Moyes was the right short-term fix in January: a proven survivor who knows the club inside out, delivering early stability and that Manager of the Month nod. Sacking him after less than 10 months would smack of panic, especially with a thin squad and off-field transitions (new ownership, stadium move). His win rate so far (around 40-45% based on the described runs) is respectable for a relegation battler, and he's kept Everton competitive against bigger sides.
That said, the recent wobble is concerning. If results don't improve by mid-November—say, another winless run or slipping into the bottom three—the Friedkins' patience could wear thin. Everton needs more than survival; they need foundations for top-half contention. Moyes excels at grit but has historically struggled with flair or youth integration. A mid-season exit risks chaos, but clinging on too long could stall progress.
Recommendation: Give him until the December 2025 international break (about 5-6 more games). Use it to assess if tactical tweaks (e.g., better set-piece defense, more attacking verve) yield points. If not, target a progressive replacement like Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth's success story) or a data-driven coach to align with the new era. Evertonians deserve stability, but not stagnation—Moyes' legacy buys time, not immunity.

Easy this
Love a bit of chattgpt

People within an industry do talk to each other. I can't recall any manager whose contract length has been kept secret.

If every media outlet went with 2 and a half years then there's probably a very good reason. Helen from HR probably does see the odd contract from time to time.

No chance he would have signed an 18 month contract, wether you like him or not he would have had plenty of offers out their by now.

18 month would sound quite disrespectful to him..

His lack of change in approach has, and is, one of his biggest limitations. A crap left back and a centre back playing at right back are a massive issue. Every fan can see it, every opposition team can see it. It limits our attacks and means Ndiaye and Grealish have no support. Garner needs to be moved to full back- either right or left, it’s a coin toss at the moment.

I think a quality number 6 is nearly as important next season as full backs and a striker, I also think that would help with Harrison Armstrong and Rhol settling in to the team next season, could be a good midfield 3

We haven’t played a 6 since Ancelotti played Allan there with Doucoure in the right channel and Gomes in the left.

Every single Everton manager just lazily puts out 4231 every game even though we don’t have the midfielders to play a double pivot.

And how quickly do you think its taken opposition managers to work out Everton have no decent fullbacks so just smother grealish and ndiaye.
Im watching what you class as bog standard sides and their fullbacks bombing forward and thinking wtf are my club doing. Im still watching a centre half at mine lol.

Winning away at Anfield is a pretty meaningless stat. The guy before Moyes with the most games there without a win is Sir Bobby Robson with 23, and he is certainly not a poor manager.

You certainly could not accuse him of being negative or defensive, but their records were just as bad.
