Finally got watching that video. It looks totally untouched by man and just how Mother Mature intended. Stunning. The stone is rare and the wife heard it was local to where she was born but apparently it is more widespread but may be it is unique to Finland ,I don't know .The reason people are moving down is for work .A lot of the wood trade has gone with the demand for paper dropping and the Finnish government has decided that for one reason or other to concentrate the populus in the south around five or six cities .As it is more economical tending the services in a smaller area .
If you get the chance you tube a video on the Finnish countryside ,it is stunning -stunningly flat but beautiful with it's 200,000 lakes .Try this but don't stop there :-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFcvmNDKuBo
We saw a similar sight on the way to Spalding yesterday, wasn’t able to stop and get a picture unfortunately. We saw this Eyrar of swans this morning ,readying themselves for their migration .Sorry it is so far from the road :-View attachment 189864
Judging by most of the crowd yesterday, mostly middle-aged men, he’s not on his own. lolSo what you're saying H is that he's still just a big kid really. lol
We had a bear about 1/4 mile away in the last house luckily it was the other side of a small river ,we didn't see it but a neighbour did -from our side of the river .Finland is about 1.5 times the size of the UK and 1/10 of the population ,so 15 times as much space per capita. We lived in the second largest city and could walk for hours and not meet anyone ,granted we were on the edge .Finally got watching that video. Have you encountered any of the bears?
That just seems wrong.Saw these today, I like crisps and I like Christmas pudding but….View attachment 189941
It could be quite the spot for a Billionaire recluse who enjoys nature. We had a bear about 1/4 mile away in the last house luckily it was the other side of a small river ,we didn't see it but a neighbour did -from our side of the river .Finland is about 1.5 times the size of the UK and 1/10 of the population ,so 15 times as much space per capita. Hi toffee. It could be quite the spot for a Billionaire recluse who enjoys nature.
For anyone who hasn’t actually experienced it, that scale of isolation is hard to comprehend.
Watched this on BBC a couple of years back. Filmed in Norway but I guess the isolation is comparable with parts of Finland. No commentary just two hours of (mostly) peace and quiet. It could be quite the spot for a Billionaire recluse who enjoys nature.
