Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Some of you have probably already guessed but I haven't felt much like posting for the last few days. Nothing serious and can't really put my finger on it. Guess it's just the time of year coming into the autumn/winter period, longer nights, my phone giving me headaches, all the crap that's going on in the world (is anything good happening out there?) and Everton on a losing streak etc etc. Plus my eldest sister up in Ambleside hasn't been great the last year or so and they can't find out what's wrong with her, and it's starting to affect her mentally now too. She's normally a very bubbly person so seeing her struggling so much is pretty hard to take on board too. Anyway, I'm not going to beat myself up over it. The luck I've had over the last 18 months or so I think I'm entitled to feel a bit sorry for myself from time to time.

I'm actually feeling a little bit chirpier today. Probably because I've been out to lunch with Rob and had a couple of beers. Seems he's been going through something similar himself, but we've cheered each other up a bit today and promised to try and get out for lunch at least once a week over the winter. We've also arranged to go to his Round table club on Thursday night for a game of snooker, which should be fun as I haven't played for about 20 years and my eyesight isn't what it once was.

In other news, my mate called yesterday to say he's looking at arranging another trip up to Musselburgh races in February for a weekend jumps meeting, which I'll probably tie in with a few days in Liverpool. So hopefully that's something to look forward to.

More good news on the weight front too. Most of you will know that I lost a fair bit of weight earlier in the year but bottomed out around April, since when I've hovered around the same weight. I weighed myself when I returned from the cruise a month ago and was quite pleased that I had only put back on a couple of pounds or so since April. Well I weighed myself again yesterday and have lost 6 pounds, and am now probably at my lowest weight since I retired 9 years ago. Pretty chuffed with that. I haven't been doing anything special that I can think of, but am probably drinking a bit less than I do in the summer. And of course my BBQs for 1 are probably a touch excessive on portion size lol . But it's also encouraged me to start doing my daily toning exercises again and I can already feel the benefit of that.

Not sure what's happening on the phone front. It seems to be working OK since I got the SD card but I'm still not convinced I've fully sorted out the problem. I may have to bite the bullet and buy a new phone. I already wasted £10 on a new SD card as it turned out I already had one. Three in fact. I thought they were too big but they were actually micro SD cards inside their adapters. Told you I was thick.

Anyway, I'm not going to beat myself up over it. The luck I've had over the last 18 months or so I think I'm entitled to feel a bit sorry for myself from time to time.

I know exactly what you mean mate. I sometimes ask myself, "am I feeling sorry for myself, or am I having a sad day?" Y'know. I usually conclude that either way, both feel the same, and who the hell do I have to answer to anyrate.

Works for me. Giving blood tomorrow for the first time. Reckon after Nik and Dad, owe the NHS some back!

Good morning Fred You will of course get times like that ,I don't know how you have coped so well .Well done on getting off the pounds and after a cruise it is even more impressive .On the phone front it might be you looking for faults now if the memory is sorted ,work out what you want it for and if it does that then don't look any further .
We do miss you posting but not if you are not up to it ,you have made such great strides and thanks to @roydo and his shoulder you seem to me to be coping very well ,saying that you do need to grieve and that might not be done properly yet .Only you can tell but as you know we are all here for you .
Stay strong that man.

Just to echo what others have said, you and @roydo are entitled to feel upset and sorry for yourselves. Roydo is right you don’t have to answer to anyone so the rest of the world can go run. Sorry if I seemed as though I was pestering you, it comes with being an old woman, I can’t help reverting to type. lol 4E2D245A-94D8-4301-90E8-678E18F40D81.webp

Called in at Burghley Park on the way home from Stamford. Took a few pics. The tall tree with the small one beside it made me smile, Grandad and Grandchild Tree, think I may be slowly losing the plot lol View attachment 187598View attachment 187599View attachment 187600View attachment 187601View attachment 187603
Seeing these geese reminded me that I had a letter from the Environment agency a few days ago saying that there had been cases of avian flu in our immediate area, from which I assumed they meant the village. Whilst they emphasised that it was not dangerous for humans (we can catch it from birds but it's not infectious between other humans) it's still a bit worrying that they felt it important enough to write to all the households in the area.

The letter was more a warning to anybody who kept birds, ie hens, and for everybody else to keep an eye out for dead or sick birds and to inform the agency if we see any. I know from local news reports that a lot of sea birds have been found washed up on Cornwall's beaches over the last couple of months. Very sad.

What's the weather been like where you are guys?. It doesn't normally get colder here until around November but even though it's wet and cloudy we've been seeing daytime temperatures up around 17/19C so far this month. Even the overnight temperature last night only dropped to 15C. Still haven't had my heating on and the last few nights I haven't even had to put a woolly on.

The annual mean temperature in Cornwall is the highest in the UK with cooler summer temperatures being more than offset by our very mild winters. But I fully expect 2022 to be the warmest on record. I haven't seen any frost down here for getting on for 2 years.

Good morning all. Hope you are having a lovely day. Loved the pics of Burghley @Gwladysover. @blue1948 it must be starting to get really dark for most of the day in your corner of the world. Not sure I could deal with that. I love the light nights. I think it's a bit colder in the North East than Cornwall @Barnfred 55 - we've had the heating on about 4 times this month. I love the autumn colours. The trees across the road are gorgeous. I'll take a pic later.
So, at 2pm on this day 31 years ago I became Mrs F. I've now lived in County Durham longer than I lived in Liverpool. We have decided to go out for tea. Who says romance is dead when your booking is entirely dependent on it being happy hour in the restaurant. ? We are going to a place called the Italian Farmhouse which is a pub that brews its own beer and has an Italian restaurant attached. Never had a bad meal there. No more than 5 minutes walk from home. So we can both have a drink and be home to see some of the match. Which may be a good thing or a bad thing.
I known it's early but I'm trying to sort out logistics for Christmas. I'm sure the invasion of Iraq was easier to plan! We have family in Liverpool, son in Nottingham, brother and wife arriving in Liverpool from Australia on Boxing Day, daughter's first full week after training in her new job as a prison officer starts on Boxing Day. I'm assuming she will have to work. Son's girlfriend's family are from Romford so they want to also visit her family.
Anyway, here's to three points tonight.....please Frank, it's my wedding anniversary!!! Have a lovely day all x
