Report: Duncan Ferguson appointed manager of Scottish championship side

Former Everton player Duncan Ferguson has been appointed as manager of Scottish Championship side Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Big Dunc takes on the position a matter of months after leaving his role at Forest Green Rovers, where the 51-year-old won just one of his 18 games in charge, resulting in relegation from League One.

The move north of the border will be Ferguson’s second full-time managerial position, replacing the outgoing Billy Dodds who was sacked a little over a week ago.

Ferguson will be taking on a monumental task at Inverness, who currently prop up the Scottish second division with just one point out of the opening six games this season.

The Everton icon has twice held the interim managers position at Goodison Park, firstly following the dismissal of Marco Silva in 2019, famously defeating Chelsea 3-1.

After working alongside Carlo Ancelotti at the Toffees, Ferguson reprised his role as interim coach in 2022 ahead of Frank Lampard’s appointment as manager following the sacking of Rafael Benitez.

Everton fans will be wishing icon Ferguson well in his new role

Indeed, it is his experience at Goodison Park alongside the likes of Carlo Ancelotti that has convinced the Inverness hierarchy that the Everton icon is the right man to turn their season around.

A statement on the ICTFC website states: “Duncan has worked alongside some of the most respected and outstanding football coaches in the world in recent seasons and we are proud to have him join ICTFC as our new Manager.

His professionalism, commitment and dynamic leadership skills shone through in our discussions, making him the stand out candidate.”

Ferguson’s first foray into management saw many Everton fans begin to follow the fortunes of Forest Green Rovers in support of the former centre-forward, and no doubt Inverness will gain plenty of new followers as well.

The only question remains, who’s sorting out a coach to Inverness?
