Everton look set to offload defender Mason Holgate this summer with two Premier League sides interested in his signature.
Indeed, as Sean Dyche looks to cull his squad to reduce the bloated wage bill, Holgate could be shown the exit door at Goodison Park.
The 26-year-old has been on the fringes of Everton’s squad making just eight Premier League appearances for the Blues last season.
As per Football Insider, Nottingham Forest and newly promoted Sheffield United have shown their interest in Holgate, but prefer a loan rather than a permanent deal for the defender.
Holgate has two years remaining on his current contract at Everton and few would be sad to see the defensive liability cut his time at the club short.
After showing some promise following the 2019 appointment of Carlo Ancelotti, Holgate’s error-strewn time at the Blues has been underwhelming at best, with inconsistent displays a constant inhibitor to his development.
Once compared to former Toffee John Stones, Holgate’s career has taken a different trajectory to the recent treble-winning England international, and Everton would do well to offload him this summer.
Agreeing a permanent move for the 26-year-old would be preferable, but a loan with a view to buy would at least free up some space within Sean Dyche’s squad for incoming signings this summer.
The Everton boss is clearly keen to rebuild the club’s defense, with Yerry Mina allowed to leave following the expiry of his contract, and the on-loan Conor Coady having returned to parent club Wolves.
Holgate’s departure would be the latest indication that Dyche wants to cut the bloated defensive options at the club, and with Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United both reportedly interested, the Doncaster-born defender could have played his last game for the club.
