Everton v Newcastle

A quick fixture turnaround sees Everton welcome Newcastle to Goodison Park as the Toffees look to bounce back from their Merseyside derby heartbreak.

The clash is the first of two in less than a week at Goodison, with Watford making the journey up north next Monday.

Marco Silva will be desperate to take maximum points from both games with a massive battle with Manchester City coming the following weekend, a chance to build some serious momentum heading to the Etihad.

The Blues have won their last four Premier League outings at home. Everton’s Portuguese boss has started to make L4 a fortress once more after numerous years of the club being somewhat of a soft touch in their own stadium.

Newcastle have won just three games all season long, those three triumphs have came in their last four matches, beating Watford, Bournemouth and Burnley before a 3-0 home defeat to West Ham put an end to their fine run.

Everton come into this one on the back of five straight victories over the Magpies and Evertonians would love to get the better of Rafa Benitez once more.

One to watch

Salomon Rondon hasn’t proved clinical during his short spell in the north east, but the Venezuelan centre forward will no doubt prove a handful for Everton’s defence.

In his eight league appearances this campaign he has netted just twice, both coming in Newcastle’s 2-1 downing of Bournemouth.

But despite the uninspiring numbers his sheer physicality will need special attention on Wednesday evening.

Team news

Ademola Lookman could be set for his first start this season after a number of impressive cameos from the bench.

Newcastle will be without the suspended Matt Richie after the dangerous wide man picked up his 5th booking this term.

Paul Dummett and Isaac Hayden are out.

Man in the middle —

Lee Mason will be in charge of the whistle for this one. In the six PL games he has refereed this season he has dished out 21 yellow cards.
