Swansea City v Everton

A week since a misfiring Everton failed to punish Liverpool, they travel to Wales to face a rejuvenated Swansea side under the leadership of Carlos Carvalhal.

Evertonians will be hoping shooting drills were highest priority at USM Finch Farm this week after drawing a dismal blank in the Merseyside derby.

Swansea looked a certainty for relegation under Paul Clement and their decision to replace him with Carvalhal, who was sacked by Sheffield Wednesday just days earlier, didn’t seem the most inspiring.

But the Portuguese boss has the Swans in 15th, five points above the drop zone. He has won eight, drawn seven and lost just four of 19 games since his appointment.

But they are winless in four, with two of those four losses coming in the last three clashes – against Manchester United and Spurs – so the Welsh outfit will be looking to put that right at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.

Everton are aiming for just their third win away from home this term and a victory that could see them rise to eighth in the table providing Leicester are defeated by high-flying Burnley. A win for the home side could see them reach the dizzy heights of 13th.

One to watch

The Swans’ leading scorer is Jordan Ayew, the Ghanaian attacker has notched 10 goals in all competitions, two ahead of Tammy Abraham and a further seven away from his third closest rival marksman.

Everton’s defence was strong against a free scoring Liverpool outfit last time out, but Ayew can still be confident to add to his tally against a side that has shipped 53 goals in the league so far.

Team news

Idrissa Gueye is back to full fitness, Phil Jagielka had a niggle but is expected to be okay.

Ayew is back after a three-match suspension but Sam Clucas and Mike van der Hoorn will undertake late fitness tests for the hosts.

Man in the middle

Lee Mason will take the whistle for the clash. He has shown 59 yellow cards and four reds in the 22 matches he has refereed this season.
