Barnsley 3-5 Everton (aet)

Everton need extra time to overcome a resilient Barnsley in a 5-3 victory at Oakwell to progress to the Third Round of the League Cup.

Barnsley were 2-0 up inside 30 minutes. Mirallas pulled one back on 51 minutes before Naismith made it 2-2. Barnsley regained the lead within a minute of the leveller. Lukaku made it 3-3 on 78 minutes but an extra time own goal from Roberts and Lukaku’s second sent Everton through to meet Reading in the next round.
