Aston Villa 3-2 Everton

Everton’s put in an excruciating performance and suffer a deserved defeat at Villa Park.

Roberto Martinez opted to make two changes to the side that beat Manchester United 3-0 last weekend, with Ross Barkley and Leon Osman dropped for Kevin Mirallas and Steven Naismith.

Aston Villa took the lead on 10 minutes. Fabian Delph’s cross finding Christian Benteke who headed past Tim Howard.

Villa should have doubled their lead through Ron Vlaar who headed haplessly wide from a corner.

Christian Benteke made no mistake from a later corner just before the interval, making it 2-0.

Everton pulled a goal back through a Lukaku penalty but Villa ended any revival hope through Tom Cleverley.

Phil Jagielka added a late consolation on 92 minutes.

One to forget…

FT Aston Villa 3-1 Everton.
