We are fully aware that is not good enough

Leighton Baines didn’t mess around when he gave his view on Everton’s performance after the 2-2 draw with bottom of the table Leicester City on Sunday.

The Blues found it tough to break through the Foxes’ 5-4-1 formation but finally went ahead through Steven Naismith.

Unfortunately, Leicester not only levelled with David Nugent’s goal but also went in front through Esteban Cambiasso.

And, despite Everton rescuing a point thanks to Matthew Upson’s own goal two minutes from time, Baines felt the Blues had fallen short of the required standard.

Speaking to evertontv, the defender said: “It’s frustrating, once again it’s a game that we should be winning but we have ended up having to battle away just to get a point. So it is frustrating and disappointing.

“For the most part, we have not been able to break teams who try and frustrate us down. We try to figure it out but what we have been doing hasn’t been good enough for the majority of the time. In numerous games here at Goodison that we expect to win, we have come away with a point or nothing at all.

“We are fully aware that that is not good enough.”

Baines returned to the Everton side after missing three games with a knock, though admitted the afternoon had been soured by the result.

“Personally, it is nice to be back playing after injury but you don’t enjoy your football unless you are winning games,” he said. “The Europa League is where we have had some success and enjoyment so far so hopefully we can get a win on Thursday.

“Hopefully we can recapture that feel-good factor and reach the next round.”
