Pienaar: “It’s an honour to be captain”

Steven Pienaar has described captaining Everton to be an “honour” and will remember the experience for years to come.

Roberto Martinez named a reserve/youth lineup in Everton’s final Europa League group game, naming Steven Pienaar as captain.

Pienaar told evertonfc.com: “It’s an honour to be captain. Unfortunately it didn’t go so well but it was a proud moment and a day I will remember for years to come.

“I found out today [Thursday] and I was quite surprised because we have got some other senior players. I think it was because I have been here for so long.”
