When Moyes signed Mikel Arteta on loan in 2005 it seemed like the gaping hole left by everyone’s favourite bald Dane was about to be filled. Arteta was essential to the Blues when he was at Goodison and the perfect replacement for Graveson. But on the last day, last hour, last minute of the Summer transfer window in 2011 he made the move to London’s Gunners. Replacing an Arsenal Judas Samir Nasri as their number 8.

Some may argue he served his time at Goodison with honour and skill, but the sudden nature of his departure is what puts him on this list. Breaking blue hearts at the last second.
