Everton 0-1 Sunderland

Sunderland pulled off a shock 1-0 away win at 10-man Everton on Boxing Day, their first away win since April – and their first in the league at Goodison Park since 1996.

Everton had not lost at Goodison 2013, but Ki Sung-Yueng´s penalty just after the midway point in the first half gave the Wearsiders victory.

Tim Howard brought down Ki Sung-Yueng after Leon Osman had miscontrolled the ball just outside the area and the Korean nipped in to steal the ball before taking it around Howard, which resulted in the American being shown a red card for a professional foul.

Ki netted the resulting penalty, with Joel Robles unable to stop Sunderland taking the lead after replacing Osman

And Sunderland, who were without their first-choice defensive pairing of John O´Shea and Wes Brown, weathered a barrage of pressure from the Toffeemen in the second half with keeper Vito Mannone producing man of the match display as he kept a third successive clean sheet.
