Everton Sign Arouna Kone

Everton have confirmed the signing of 29-year-old Ivorian international Arouna Kone from Wigan Athletic on a three year deal.

The Toffees fought off late interest from Newcastle and several other clubs to land the coveted experienced striker.

The new recruit will re-unite with Roberto Martinez, who brought him to England during his time as Wigan manager.

Kone enjoyed a solid first season in England, winning the FA Cup at the first attempt. However, he was unable to save Wigan from the agony of relegation to the Championship, resulting in the striker looking for a move away from the DW Stadium after just one full season.

He has enjoyed spells in Spain, Holland and Germany before coming to England, once commanding a fee of €12 million to sign for Spanish side Sevilla.

Everton triggered a minimum fee release clause to land their man, believed to be around £5m.
