Voice In The Crowd: Jane Waddington

In this fortnightly feature, I’ll be out and about in the field, asking (O.K, pestering) some of your fellow Blues, young and old, both members and non-members of GrandOldTeam about their life as an Evertonian so far.

We start with Jane Waddington, 24, from Wavertree. Jane is a nurse and has been to some memorable games for the Blues, seeing Wayne Rooney break our Elland Road losing streak and Tim Howard score his long range effort at Goodison.

How long have you been an Everton Fan?

Jane Waddington: I’m nearly in to my third decade as an Evertonian, nearly twenty years.

How did you become an Evertonian?

Jane Waddington: My dad was an Evertonian, my brother was an Evertonian. My mum is a Liverpudlian, but I remember stealing my brother’s 1987/88 season Everton shirt when I was five.

Your favourite game (and why)?

Jane Waddington: I went to the 2004/05 “Carsley” derby, in the Lower Gwladys Street. Do I really need to say why?

Your favourite current player (and why)?

Jane Waddington: Phil Jagielka. I think he’s good and a little bit sexy.

Who is the greatest player to have ever played for Everton in your lifetime?

Jane Waddington: In my lifetime, it’s Neville Southall. But I’d like to give an honourable mention to Duncan Ferguson too. Both are genuine club legends, but I’ll go with Southall……..just!

….And the worst player?

Jane Waddington: Sticking with goalkeepers, I’ll go for Richard Wright. He was awful. I feel bad saying that, but I didn’t like him.

The most obscure name and number you have owned on the back of a shirt?

Jane Waddington: I have one of the “Tickled Pink” ladies Everton shirt, and I got both my Nan’s names on the back because they’d both recently died from cancer.

Since you have been following Everton, what would your best eleven be?

Jane Waddington:
GK. Howard
RB. Hibbert
CB. Weir
CB. Jagielka
LB. Baines
RM. Arteta
CM. Fellaini
CM. Gravesen
LM. Pienaar
CF. Rooney
CF. Ferguson
SUBS. Southall, Valente, Cahill, Neville, Vellios.

Q-If you were in charge of world football for a day, what is the first thing you’d do?

Jane Waddington: I’d bring back the European Cup Winners Cup, because we’ve won it and I thought it was a little bit different.

Q – Pineapple on Pizza?

Jane Waddington: Absolutely not. The Devil’s food.

That´s all for this edition. Who knows, in two weeks time I may be featuring you in “Voice in the Crowd”.
