Glasgow Rangers contract rebel Steven Naismith is moving closer to a free transfer to Goodison Park, according to widespread media reports.
The Scottish international refused to join the Rangers “newco” project after the Gers went into liquidation last month, and thus became a free agent.
Naismith, 25, has long been on the radar of Everton gaffer David Moyes, who has swooped to snatch him up for no fee, hopefully ahead of a return to pre-season training this Thursday.
Naismith suffered a nasty injury which saw him miss the majority of last season. As such, any move to Everton would be dependant on passing a stringent medical on his knee ligaments – known on GrandOldTeam as the “Ross Barkley Test”.
He is a “second striker” type of forward who will be looking forward to re-uniting with former colleagues Nikica Jelavic and David Weir at Goodison Park.
