Everton 0-1 Stoke

Robert Huth´s first-half strike condemned Everton to a desperately disappointing 1-0 defeat on home soil to Stoke City.

From then on, Stoke strolled to victory against a desperately impotent Everton. A case of ´same old story´ to which the Goodison faithful have become accustomed, an impotent side completely devoid of nous, creativity or any idea in the final third.

The less said about this one the better. Grim.

Moyes: “We huffed and puffed a little bit, Their keeper’s not had a save to make. What wins games is goals; they got the goal and we didn’t.

“I’d be surprised if we’ve not had a massive amount of the ball. We got in good positions to create chances but we didn’t get anything on target or put in good balls.”

“We didn’t concede many chances. We defended the corner but we didn’t defend the edge of the box.

“We weren’t the biggest side today and it was always going to be difficult, but we hadn’t done an awful lot wrong and I don’t think we deserved to be behind. We had to go chasing it after that.

“We didn’t create much but that’s credit to Stoke. If you talk about Stoke over the years, they don’t concede much and they’re hard to break down.”

“The expectations are that we should be winning these sort of games. But Stoke have spent money in the transfer market and we haven’t.

“Today I can hardly think of a Stoke chance. The boys at the back have done well, we’ve just not had enough to break them down at the other end.”

“There were a couple of bear hugs on him, I thought the referee had a poor game today. That’s not the reason for our loss, far from it, but there were quite a few things going on in the box and we got very little out of it. Our loss was down to our inability to create, though.”

“Saha has a thigh strain, I don’t think it’s that serious. He trained on Saturday and we expected him to be fit but afterwards he felt it.”
