Everton 2-1 West Brom

Phil Neville produced a stunning extra-time winner as Everton came from behind at the death to beat West Brom in the third round of the Carling Cup.

Changes were the order of the evening, with David Moyes making six from Everton´s home win over Wigan. Cahill, Osman, Hibbert, Distin, Howard and Bilyaletdinov were rested, with Royston Drenthe and Denis Stracqualursi both making first starts for Everton. Roy Hodgson made nine changes to his side that lost in dismal fashion to Swansea.

The visitors broke the deadlock just before the hour mark courtesy of a Chris Brunt penalty, awarded after Somen Tchoyi´s direct run found Peter Odemwingie in the area and he was brought down by Everton goalkeeper Jan Mucha.

And that penalty looked enough to see the Baggies through at our expense, but midfielder Marouane Fellaini spearheaded a late frantic Everton onslaught and in the closing moments, Fellaini, making his 100th appearance, rescued Everton a minute from time. The Belgian wrapped the ball around his left-foot to volley home from the edge of the area to the delight of the Goodison Park faithful and force extra-time.

Phil Neville then produced another stunning finish, curling home a left-foot shot from just inside the area, in the 103rd minute. Neville was teed up by a pass from Royston Drenthe and guided his shot into the corner for his first goal since April to secure Everton´s place in the next round of the Carling Cup.
