Everton´s resident World Cup finalist John Heitinga has backtracked from his recent remarks to the media, in which he indicated he refused to play out of position for Everton again.
Heitinga bizarrely slammed the club for not playing him, as he believed he was one of the best defenders in the world and objected to being used at right-back – when in reality he´s hardly been used in that position this year.
In an attempt to avoid the inevitable backlash from Everton fans at Goodison Park, Heitinga has once again spoken out – this time about his "love" for wearing the Everton shirt and that he is "100% committed" to the Toffees.
"Of course, I want to play. I always want to play and especially here at Everton, where I am delighted with the way the supporters have taken to me," said a repentant Heitinga.
"All I can say is that I love playing at Everton and I love playing for the manager.
"I am not happy when I am not playing but I haven´t met many footballers who are happy when they´re not involved.
"The manager has told all the players here that we will get playing time and it´s up to us to make the most of it and to take the opportunity.
"I am nothing less than 100% committed to Everton Football Club and will continue to be the same every time I play."
Time will tell if this is enough to appease irate Evertonians.
