Palace Boss Lauds On Loan Vaughan Performances.

DOUGIE Freedman says he judges on-loan Everton striker James Vaughan’s contribution to Crystal Palace’s bid to beat the drop more on his performances than his goals.

Vaughan netted his first goal in six games in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Loftus Road to take his tally to eight for the current campaign.

But while boss Freedman was delighted the 22-year-old scored, he insists goals are not the yard stick by which he measures the displays of his strikers.

The SE25 manager said: “I don’t judge my strikers on goals, I judge them on performances and the performances James puts in every week hassling the other teams have been outstanding.

“He has been getting nine out of 10 from me regularly in terms of a rating and if he gets goals, that’s for his satisfaction.

“For the team’s satisfaction it is more important his performances are up there and they certainly are.

“I thought he was outstanding against Cardiff, a top team in this division, and performances count for everything.”
