So your basicall showing us a player we cant afford? Cheers mate!

You could say that, yes.

But Sporting bought him for 2M euros for half of the rights with an option to buy the other 50% during 2 years for another 2M euros.

So, until the end of the current season Sporting may buy all the rights on the player for another 2M euros, in a total of 4M euros.

This shows what a crap scouting net we have.

This lad was in Russia on the bench due to problems with the manager. And Sporting who had him referenced since the U21 European Championship was following him all along. And they took a gamble.

So when Moyes says he has scouts all over the place to discover the Moutinho's, that's bullshit. Because Moutinho was scouted 2/3 years ago by Everton and Moyes only decides he wants him when he's worth 25M euros... What a magnificient way to discover talent....

Arteta: 2 million
Cahill: 2.5 million
Pienaar: 2 million
Yobo: 4 million

I wouldn't say our scouting network is crap, we'd picked up some decent players and turned them into very good players.

20M euros....

Reminds me of the scene in Clear & Present Danger:

Jack Ryan: "How much for the helicopter?"

Colombian Salesman: "One million dollars."

Jack Ryan: "Uh, ok. Well, can I rent it?"

Colombian Salesman: "Sure, you just need to leave a deposit."

Jack Ryan: "Ok, how much is that?"

Colombian Salesman: "One million dollars."

Jack Ryan: "Will you take a company check?"

Arteta: 2 million
Cahill: 2.5 million
Pienaar: 2 million
Yobo: 4 million

exactly. sotnas, i understand you love sporting, but you sometimes come across in quite a condescending way towards everton.

In how many season's?

Arteta wasn't really a finding, was he? I think you guys know players who play in Scotland, don't you?

Pienaar...well, for about the same money you'd get Vukcevic a year ago. Vukcevic is only 21/22 years of age. And Pienaar wasn't an unknown player. He played for Ajax and then in Germany. Two high profile scenario's.

Yobo...wasn't he loaned to us on his first season? And those 4M at the time represented what percentage of our budget for transfers? And I guess he was 18 when he joined Standard Liege... now, that was some piece of scouting to me.

Cahill was playing in England, mate. If we couldn't recognize talent inside our own home, then we should close doors.

We still took a chance on the players mentioned, we improved them and turned them into quality players.

What's the difference?

Not the case mate. It's just sad to see a club who has a bigger budget not achieving anything.

I saw Everton paying 6M for Beattie and 8M for AJ and none of them would hold a place in Sporting's or Benfica's or Porto's side.

You look at the Everton squad and not many players would attract the attention of clubs like Milan or Barcelona....

So, having more money Everton should be doing better...much better...

We don't raise enough youngsters to feed the squad, we don't raise youngsters o feed the big fish (apart from Rooney or Jeffers).

We don't get into European finals, we don't get any home silverware.

Is this condescending? I'd say it is disappointment watching such potential being wasted.

Who would buy us all those players with a BIG profit?

At this point, would anyone be offering, let's say 10M for pienaar or yobo?

And Cahill, could we sell him for that amount of money?

Arteta I think we could...but no one has come for him...

Does that matter, we have alot of underrated players. Everton don't have any superstars, we never have done.

We'd easily get around 12 million for Cahill, he's a goalscoring midfielder in a very strong League. Arteta could get us 15-20 million, Valencia offered 15 million at the start of last season which we rejected. Athletico, Zaragoza, Arsenal etc have all been interested in the past.

It really does, mate. Are we a top standard club? Challenging to win anything? No, sadly we aren't.

Do we want to get there? I do, don't know about the rest of you guys.

How could we get there?

a. One crazy billionaire comes in at take over the club. But as I said before we don't have to sell our souls to win things.
b. We creat a structure that allows us to attract quality players.

I'd go for plan b. But how would I do it without money? Well, first of all I'd look at our academy. Turn it around, set a scouting net across UK to find the best kids. Those we couldn't get to our academy and who we rated would be followed until we could come forward.

Second, I'd set a scouting net across the world looking for youngsters.

Then, I'd set my eyes on using the Bosman rule. Good players come along, as long as good scouts are on the field.

So I'd set a way to bring players in on the cheap.

The idea behind all this would be to sell with a lot of profit, to fund the clubs future plans.

At some point we'd get enough money to hold the best players. We wouldn't have to sell. Then, we'd be able to occasionally get in a big buck player. And finally we'd be cahellenging for things.

Of course this wouldn't come from night to day. It would take some good 5/6 years.

But looking at the club right now, we are in right moment to do it. We have a solid structure at the moment. We don't have too much money but we can pay our bills (and certainly we have more money, when considering the wage budget plus the transfer kit, than most of european clubs. and some are doing better than we are). We are clearly a top ten team, so I'd say we have some stability.

So bringing players we could sell on a high are subject that really matters.

Who's to say we won't mate? Lets see what we bring in before we start judging and giving opinions.

It seems to me Moyes is looking very hard and will only bring the right players in. Players with quality who are going to improve us. This could hurt us (leaving it so late) but it could also be the making of us. When teams like Villa are bringing in squad players we could go out and buy MBia, Moutinho, Love, Fernandes etc. Quality players who are going to push us onto that next level.

The scouting thing your talking about is a very hard thing to do. If it was so easy everyone would be doing it, on Arsenal, Sporting and Ajax seem to be successful in that department. I'm sure there there are 5/6 clubs who scout every League in the world, in other words your always going to get the lesser players while the bigger clubs pick up the best young talents.

Our Acadamy isn't terrible, we've brought through Vaughan, Rooney, Jeffers, Ball, Anichebe, Rodwell, Baxter, Hibbert and Osman over the past few years. Players who are capable of competing is this League. Compared to other teams in England our acadamy is good. Compare us to Liverpool for example, we've brought more players through than them over the past few years.

They've adopted the buy abroad system and it's got them nowhere. They bought a Argentinian centre half two years ago for 2.5 million, the next season he was sold back to Argentina. What a waste.
