Player Valuation: £10m
Who's to say we won't mate? Lets see what we bring in before we start judging and giving opinions.
It seems to me Moyes is looking very hard and will only bring the right players in. Players with quality who are going to improve us. This could hurt us (leaving it so late) but it could also be the making of us. When teams like Villa are bringing in squad players we could go out and buy MBia, Moutinho, Love, Fernandes etc. Quality players who are going to push us onto that next level.
The scouting thing your talking about is a very hard thing to do. If it was so easy everyone would be doing it, on Arsenal, Sporting and Ajax seem to be successful in that department. I'm sure there there are 5/6 clubs who scout every League in the world, in other words your always going to get the lesser players while the bigger clubs pick up the best young talents.
Our Acadamy isn't terrible, we've brought through Vaughan, Rooney, Jeffers, Ball, Anichebe, Rodwell, Baxter, Hibbert and Osman over the past few years. Players who are capable of competing is this League. Compared to other teams in England our acadamy is good. Compare us to Liverpool for example, we've brought more players through than them over the past few years.
They've adopted the buy abroad system and it's got them nowhere. They bought a Argentinian centre half two years ago for 2.5 million, the next season he was sold back to Argentina. What a waste.
Don't compare us to the [Poor language removed], mate. Their manager would get us relegated. The onion is always whinning about getting new players in.
The scouting is hard to do, I agree. But it is necessary for clubs who want, at some point, to become forces in football.
You must keep in perspective that mining players is not getting the finished product. Is about getting the roght players to develop.
Do you see Arsenal spending big? I'm sure that if they can keep tehir players beyond this new season they'll be real contenders for years. If they're doing it, why not us?
We must build a reputation on this department.
And please, don't say that compared to other english academies we are good. We are nowhere near Arsenal and Man Utd won the CL with a team based on their youth ranks.
We brought through on true class player so far, Rooney. And we sold him for big money as we did with Jeffers but he never lived up to expectations.
We needed to add a couple of players more to the selling record for that sort of money 20-30M, unitl we are able to hold them at the club.
That's what we should be doing.
One other thing, if we don't have too much money, why not buying players with a clause for future transfer fees? We'd get the player we need on a lower price. Of course if we sold the guy later we'd have to split the earnings, but if we were to keep the player, we'd have a real bargain.
For example, Moutinho...12,5M euros with a clause of 50% of a future fee for Sporting. He's young, he would be playing in a good league exposing the lad to the eyes of the big fishes... I think it would be tempting for the selling club.
