Would you see Rodwell go for 30m?

Damnit! Moyes should have said 60 big ones!

On the other hand, why don't City just buy Everton?

No - too cheap, if we don't build upon our youth we might as well pack up and go home. Alex, just do one.

If we were a club who... hmm... let's say were in the position of negotiation dominance then that would be too low. He's better than Carroll/younger/still English therefore he should be going for at least as much. But we're Everton, so £30 mil... I'd bite your hand off if it meant we could keep Felli and the money would be spent on new players.

I agree with this. Especially as I'm yet to be convinced by him.

If we get 30M for him then football has really gone insane. Then again if Andy Carrol can go for 35M (Best on NUFC is arguably a better goal scorer), we might be getting selling him on the cheap.

There's no doubt in my mind that he'll be a top class player in a few years time, but I would sell for 30 million. If it was down to me he'd be in our first eleven now, ahead of Cahill, but Moyes has other ideas, and if you are going to use the player sparingly, we may aswell sell and strengthen in other areas.

That being said, I think we have enough out of favour players to raise some money without having to sell Rodwell or Fellaini. Yobo, Yakubu, Heitinga and Bilyaletdinov spring to mind, and we've already sold Pienaar for 3 million.

Along with Wilshire he will be one of the best players of a generation - perhaps better, what this boy has in his locker is worth more then 30 mill over a career - personally i wouldnt sell him and like TB says, we have other low hanging fruit to raise funds if needs be.

For £30m, i'd take it tomorrow without a doubt!. IMO he's not even worth half of that. In the 3 and a half years that he's been involved with the first team, i am yet to see anything from him that would suggest he is going to be world class, the heart beat, the captain of Everton football club like a lot of Evertonians suggest.

If we could get that kind of silly money for Rodders in the summer and Moyes got the lot, and then what ever we bring in for Yobo, Yak and Vaughan went to service debts to keep the banks happy then i'd be happy with that, i think we could get a good striker that we need and a decent winger aswell and if i was Moyesy, with what ever was left, i'd put that to whatever we could bring in for selling Heitinga and buy a good young CB to partner Jags for years to come.

Yes, I would love to see what Moyes could do with a £30 million transfer kitty.
But in our current financial position would he get it ?

We'll never get £30m for him in the summer. Might get £20m, £25m tops. But he's not shown enough to warrant a £30m bid from anyone. They'd be buying him on the basis of unrealised potential. Only City could pay that kind of money, and as daft as they are, they won't pay £30m for Rodwell, especially with the FFP rules coming in.

You used the Carroll transfer as an example, but that was in January, which makes a massive difference. There was a rush to sign a replacement for Torres, and they had £35m burning a hole in their pocket They were in dire need of a striker, and Carroll was a mainstay in the Newcastle team, 3rd top scorer in the league, and had just made his England debut.

Rodwell isn't a key player in our team. If everyone were to name their first choice eleven, with everybody fit, Rodwell wouldn't be in an awful lot of those selections. He has the potential to be a very good player, and he's put some impressive performances, but at this stage, he's not undroppable, he's making solid progress, not great strides. That said i'd take £20m for him, in our current situation, thats enough for two good players.

He will eventually be worth 50 - 60 mill i know that seems unrealistic now - but trust me - this lad is going to be one of the worlds best players.

I wouldnt sell unless he forced the issue himself - we all know how that goes.

Having said that, im basing my opinion of what ive seen him produce in midfield, maybe Moyes as got plans to move im to CB to be Jags long term partner in a season or two's time cos he as said in the past he'll be a CB in the future.

In our financial predicimant, and if we was to recieve a bid of £30m from City in the summer, i'd take it cos we need to build and move on ourselves and if were going to persist with using Rodders in midfield then he's only going to be a squad players as i dont think he'll get in ahead of Felli, Arteta and Cahill for any of the central midfield roles.

But Moyes as said he doesnt want to sell Rodwell so maybe he as other plans for him, like moving him back to CB?. Maybe we should try him in there at some point and blood him alongside Jags but then again it is hard to do so when were short of numbers in the centre of the park.

There's no doubting we need a good centre forward and some pace, trickery and craft to unlock defences in midfield or on the wings and having £30m from selling Rodwell would go a long way to helping us get that but if there was a way of keeping Rodwell and grooming him into a top player in what ever position and raising the funds to get us the striker and IMO, a pacey and skillful winger that we need, then i'd be happy either way but getting £30m for a squad player who for me, isnt progressing like we all thought he would, can not be turned down.

I doubt it, personally, Rodwell's best position is behind the striker, and I think that's the role he'll eventually take up. His performances against Blackpool, Chelsea and even spells during the Arsenal game showed everything you need to see really, that's the potential you are getting. Pace, drive, athleticism, creativity, freakish two footed ability and a goal threat. He's exactly what we need in that position, and it's give us so much more options in a creative sense, instead of relying on predictable crossing into the box.

Rodwell is highly rated because he combines physical and technical attributes, and players that well off in both areas are few and far between, and those who have it are usually very dominant players. Teams buy 'potential' all the time, and even if Rodwell doesn't fulfill his potential, he's still going to be a very good player, capable of gracing many sides.
