It's partly to do with the new tv deal (and just as importantly, the fact of how widely publicised it's been), partly the fact that a new manager has been installed for the first time in 11 years, and even that shower on the board would have trouble justifying not giving him SOME backing, and partly the fact that (in all likelihood) all of our 4 highest wage earners are going to be off the books by September 3rd.

We will spend whatever we make through sales and not a penny more. You're going to be horribly let down if you go in with any other mindset.

I was always going to be worried when Moyes left unless we got someone's of Mourinho's ilk in, and that was never going to happen.

As I said in another thread, our position is perilous in the sense that a couple of poor transfer windows would leave us in disarray. Get the wrong players in to replace the likes of Baines and Fellaini and we're left with no assets to improve what will be a mediocre squad.

The players we're linked with at the moment don't fill me with confidence, they're definitely not players who will propel us to the Champions League.

Out of interest, where do you think the additional money is going to go? Bearing in mind that the debt we now hold is structured in such a way that paying off large chunks early will incur penalty clauses, and even the money saved on wages of those 4 individuals will move us from losing money to making a profit?

Just curious, because while I do believe Kenwright and his hacks are commercially inept, and shouldn't be running a Premier League football club, I don't believe they're stuffing money in their back pockets.

Upgrades we're looking for. If anyone wants to argue that Jelavic isn't bettered by Kone or that Heitinga will contribute more to us than Alcaraz then they cant have been watching their turgid performances last year.

We'd all like the quality signings, buit they come at a price...even the speculative punts these days will cost you £4-5M. What Martinez will get from Kone and Alvaraz are two players in key positions in the spine of the team.

To be brutally honest, I don't know. And like you I highly doubt Bill and his cronies are taking a slice of the money, in fact we know they're not. But say for arguments sake we ship Baines and Fellaini on for a fee of around £35m I just can't see us spending a penny over that amount.

If people want to believe we'll have a war chest of £50m this summer then that's great, I just won't leave myself feeling disappointed.

Actually, the last time the TV deal increased (and the increase was MUCH MUCH smaller than this one), we had a positive net spend that summer - not massive, but positive.

Not saying we'll have £50m pre transfers, but wouldn't surprise me if we had somewhere between £10m and £15m to spend. We really SHOULD DO, given the massive increase in income, and the drop in wage bill.

There's no way of telling how either will adapt to playing at a far bigger club than Wigan. I'd be appeased by this type of signing if they were coming in with the guarantee there'll be other (better) players to follow. And that might well be the case, I just worry it isn't.

The year we brought Yak and Baines in? You're actually right, I just remember that being shrouded in rumour it was actually a loan from Green, but that was probably your typical forum hearsay.

If we do have £10m/15m to spend then excellent, if not then fair enough, it's pretty much what you'd expect from the current regime.

I'd convinced myself we'd see the £10m from the sale of Arteta in the January transfer window later that season and it didn't materialise, I just hope a similar thing doesn't happen this time around. If as you the debt's been restructured to a manageable level then there's no reason why won't have a positive net spend. Here's hoping.

every season for as long as I can remember we have only spent what we have sold.. and some seasons we've sold more than spent!

that means BK has not once provided us with any transfer budget, and some everton fans arnt clever enough to realise that. its a sad state that a club like us is potless, then Southampton of league one three seasons ago can put in 12m bids for players. why are we so poor? STILL!

Technically we should have the 9m we had in January for Fer, plus any money we get from sales.. plus a budget from BK
