Cynical. Why should I compromise my life while some Chinese factory pumps out more Co2 in a year than I will in a lifetime?

China is actually one of the biggest markets for renewables, but they need the base power you get from a fossil fueled source, and they happen to choose coal. Until smart grids come along renewables will always have this problem as the old style grids simply aren't cut out for such intermittent power.

I'm not getting the 'they don't so why should we' vibe.

As the originator of the western way we look to you Britain.

Greener is just smarter, thats all.

I can see where both you and Bruce are coming from macca, one lives in a low lying house by the sea, the other 2,000 ft up a mountain side..........................its all perspective. Green has to make sense especially if you live up the mountain and your mum and dad by the sea.......................they'd have to come and live with you, piss smell and al once the waters rise b)

Your not talking about the end of the world are you?

2012 NAILED ON, just ask Ghost.

There was a mini ice age just ended mid 19th century. I would bet that is when they started taking records so of course temperatures are going to be increasing since then. It is all a cycle people, don't panic. Just something to make someone some money no doubt.

Recycling is easy, I've got my three bins and it's easy to sort out rubbish.

I try to buy as much from local farm shops as I can, yes it can be more expensive sometimes but there is less packaging and less 'food miles'. I don't ever take plastic carrier bags from shops.

Like some of you I walk whenever I can rather than drive (mostly to keep the weight down). I use low energy lighting at home and switch off things rather than leave them on standby (mostly because I'm tight).

The rest is up to business to do their part. For example food in local supermarkets is still over packaged. If major supermarkets could cut one layer of packaging from some of their products the amount of cardboard I have to recycle would also reduce. The focus on recycling and energy saving in our country seems to be on households. It's time for industry to really step up.

Very good point mate. the amount of packaging is shocking. Most of it is just advertising

One nasty little virus and all these problems will soon disappear, along with the majority of us, we're doomed I tell ye doomed :(
