World Cup memories

This one for me. It all seemed so exotic and faraway. Great goals from Rep, Haan, Krankl, Nelinho. Tickertape receptions.

My favourite game of all time. A noble defeat for England.

Think the highlights are slightly misleading for the game as a whole. I've got a video of it from a BBC series called '100 Great Moments in Sport' when they showed the whole game. He doesn't feature much in these highlights but Rivelino virtually ran the game from centre-midfield. For England, Bally was superb and Tommy Wright had an excellent game, then there was Banks' save and Astle's miss. I've not even mentioned Pele, Tostao, Jairzinho, Carlos Alberto, Clodoaldo, Bobby Moore and Bobby Charlton, and. of course, Brian Labone.

My first ever football memories are from Italia '90.

That World Cup has almost mythical status for me. England almost getting to the Final, Nessun Dorma etc.

I remember John Barnes being interviewed 'live from Turin' (or somewhere in Italy). Just vague memories, but brilliant.

First WC I remember
Watched it on a tiny black and white, grainy telly on a boat on the Norfolk Broads with my dad and grandad
Playing with the telly aerial all night to get a picture...

Mario Kempes and Archie Gemill's goal stand out

Argentina is the 1st 1 I remember as well, I was captivated by the ticker tape and Ossie Ardiles.

El Loco, Archie & Kempes all stand outs as well. Woulda been the 1st time I'd seen the Dutch style as well.

My first World Cup I watched as Italia 90. Those cups in the 90s were great. Went to Germany in 06 and being in the stadium when Timmy came off the bench to destroy Japan was great

I was at Germany in 06 as well. I remember the Aus. vs. Japan game and a great come-back from the Aussies. We went to see Brazil vs. Japan in the same group in Dortmund, which was a fantastic experience. I also remember watching Croatia vs. Japan in a fan zone in Gelsenkirchen. It was packed with Croatia fans for some reason and they became more and more irate as the game went on - it finished 0-0. The atmosphere was toxic by the end - reminiscent of us under Allardyce and the end days of Martinez.

Yeah was boss. I went to the 3 Australian group games as part of a tour. Mass party on the train back from Stuttgart to Munich after the Croatian game was a highlight.

World cup final 1966, it was my 10th birthday, I had already been taken to Goodison to see group games etc, so I was "living" the tournament.
I saw us win the world cup and then my dad and uncles "celebrated" my birthday drinking party sevens (Ask your arl fella) until the wee small hours.
