A 75-year-old man stabbed to death yards from his home may have been targeted in a racially motivated attack, according to police.

Mohammed Saleem, who used a walking stick, was stabbed three times in the back as he returned home from prayers at his local mosque in Small Heath, Birmingham, on Monday night.

The blows were struck with such violence they penetrated to the front of his body.

The father of seven also had no defensive wounds in what has been described as a swift, vicious and cowardly attack by the man leading the murder investigation, Detective Superintendent Mark Payne of West Midlands police.

Officers want to trace a white man, aged 25-32, of medium height and build, spotted on CCTV footage running near the scene of the attack around the time it happened, just before 10.30pm.

Not really. Both concern people killing a certain group in the name of an ideology, but only one has been met with attacks on an entire group of people who are unrelated to it.

The IRA killed hundreds of British people on British soil. Muslim extremists have killed dozens of people on British soil. All Muslims are being tarred with the same brush, all Irish people are not.

The IRA never hid behind a religion in their terrorism. They hated the English due to decades of fighting and murder the English army committed stemming back to the 20s, and wanted independence from Britain.

Their "reasons" are more tangible than hiding behind something that doesn't exist.

The amount of bullsh1t and right wing rhetoric in this thread is astounding.

I have lived all my life in one of the most diverse, multicultural areas in the country. I fear no Muslims, Islamists, Catholic, Protestant, Methodist, Sikh, Hindu, or any other religion, race, creed or colour.

The community I grew up in is a wide ranging mix of all of the above and more. Each and every day, these people live, work and play in each others company.
