Winter Olympics, Milan 2026

52 mph, sideways, on ice, on an declining surface. Fake.

I was hopping between Eurosport and CT Sport, because of how Hollywood narrative Eurosport went - they are streamed on HBO - so I assume it was for an American audience to consume.

CT Sport made a point of contextualising the ACL, reducing the physical importance, to say football, while stressing the psychological impact. Essentially, their call was Vonn would want to attack the top of the course, to prove to herself she was "back" with the result we saw.

I can't help but wonder how much of the narrative around Vonn she, herself, bought in to. I can't help but feel there is a particular need in the American sportsperson to return from retirement at least once to complete their own narrative.

Lance Armstrong should be the lesson, leave the sport before it catches up with you.

Finally, Breezy Johnson, every interview about her gold will include questions about Vonn until the end of time.

tyson went back after prison.
Jordan went back after baseball (worse than prison I reckon).
Ali and Foreman both went back to boxing.
There's a few drivers.
No one ever retires from golf.
Hendry tried a comeback.
Pele got duped and had to come back to football.
interesting idea for a sports thread.

Noise wise it must be pretty unsettling for athletes though?

The noise is getting on my nerves; it's like the Winter Olympics version of the vuvuzela.
It won't even register. The sound of the skis against the snow would down it out. And they'd be so focused anyway.
