Transfer Rumour Wilmar Barrios

Think his passing and ball control is a bit better. But yeah, Gana is much quicker IMO. Don't mind Barrios, but he would be a significant downgrade.

There are reasons to be sceptical. He needs to come in and become a top 5 defensive midfielder in this league, that’s how good Gana is. Considering a different country different pace of the league. It will be remarkable if he can achieve anywhere close to TOP 5 in terms of stats.

A lot of doubts from me but in fairness haven’t seen enough to judge properly, besides being annoying and throwing in a tackle from time to time, I don’t really see what he’s great at or will bring.

All the talk about lack of pace. I don't recall Barry being quick but he had the intelligence to see danger before it happened and therefore always seemed to be in the right place at the right time.

Would we be signing him AND keeping Gana ?

We should be.... Silva said in the summer he wanted 2 players for every position... He currently has no real cover for Gana...

Sneiderlin and McCarthy?, good luck...

We shouldnt be selling unless Gana hands in a transfer request...

It's not just that that's the issue, though.

Gana's always there. Whatever people say of his passing - and the criticism is fair mostly - he's on attackers like a rash most of the time.

Barrios is more about positioning, from what I've seen. I could see him easily collecting yellow cards (even reds) because he likes to lunge in and the pace of the Premier League compared to Argentina is obviously a different level.

That I would be supportive of.

Hmmm.

It'd depend.

If the plan was to play them both together we'd just end up with an MS/Gana problem anyway, tbh.

I honestly don't know why we can't just keep Gana, and try for a more attacking midfielder. If we have to wait until summer, fine, I'd rather do it then and get guaranteed quality in.

Gana's 29. But in that position he could go for another two-three years easily. His reading of the game is good, I can't see his legs going. Fernandinho (who I will say is probably more comparable in terms of playing style to Barrios than Gana is, at least from what I've seen of Barrios) is 33. It's not like they suddenly drop off a cliff.

Love how many are writing him (WB) off without ever seeing him, or at least only a couple of time in the WC.

This is a Brands player if we are after him.

Not writing him off at all. Just from what I've seen he isn't on Gana's level. He's also not the same type of player in the sense that he will be everywhere across the pitch, so it definitely wouldn't be a like-for-like switch.

From what I've seen, he likes to stay central and act as an anchor for the midfield. Well we already have that type of player in Schneiderlin.

Schneiderlin clearly isn't good enough, so if it was a straight swap between him and Barrios, then I'd be all for it. But at this stage it'd seem a more attacking player is the priority.

Tim Vickery btw is a massive smug bellend but obvious he knows his stuff when it comes to South American football
Sometimes I wished I'd had a gap year in South America watching football and no sense of shame in saying latin American names with huge Spanish/ Portuguese embellishment on their pronunciation whilst being interviewed. Then I could spout cojones about players no one else had seen or translate the back page of the Brazilian newspaper and be paid for it.

He is virtually guaranteed to do the biggest kung fu tackle the League has seen since Cantona, what's not to like?
