He has 45 caps for Portugal, playing every game in their greatest ever team.

His role is to sit deep in midfield, closing down space.

When he has the ball his job is to take it off the centre backs and play it either forward or wide and start attacks.

Both of these jobs he does really well.

Gana is all action, snaps into tackles all over the pitch, but he can't pass forwards and has no positional discipline. More fun to watch but far less effective.

that Portugal side is carried by ronaldo and my first love moutinho

Well just watched my recording of the Portugal match, and I have to say that in the 90 minutes I saw I wasn't impressed. He never broke out of a slow lumbering jog, rarely got into a position where he could make a challenge and did nothing other than a simple pass to the nearest player.

I'd say he looked behind the pace in this hot tournament match, I think he'd never get a touch in the Prem.

I mean the fact he's free makes him a whole lot more appealing. Is much rather sell schneiderlin for £20m and bring carvalho in but we'd still need an energetic box to box for me as well.

If he's not suited for the prem we would still be able to offload him for £20m+ next summer. Just offer him a big signing on free and fairly good wages.

Honestly, if they were looking for a way to make Schneiderlin look more effective, Carvalho was it.

Given the speed of the Prem, a lot of midfields will just sprint past him.

If he has no defensive duty then fair enough, but Barry was far more mobile.

Ronaldo, Quaresma, Pepe and Cedric are their best players imho.

Or be stuck with another lemon,to add to the collection.

Doesn't have to press but he didnt seem to sprint once haha

I’ve just seen a clip of Ronaldo’s freekick.
Finds the top net and runs off to celebrate. All the Portugal players chase after him - Carvalho ambles over and then stops jogging to walk the last 10 yards or so.

He’s just a foreign speaking Tom Huddlestone.

Would we have been excited about wanting to sign him?
Amazing technique and passing range. Passes forward a lot.
Not very mobile.

Would we heck!!!
“Oh but Gueye could do his running for him”.
