You could argue that him terminating his contract is actually worse for us. Yes if we get him it’s free which is perfect but more teams will be interested now and no doubt he will wait till after the World Cup. As if he plays well then the bigger teams will probably want him since it could be for nothing.

Yeah 100% this. Everton never seem to sign good players on a free he'll end up at a Milan/Sevilla type club now.

If we wanted him bad enough we could give Sporting what they want for him. If not, it could very well be that we have been in contact with him for some time, in which case basic sales tells you that once you get someone committed to you first they are much less likely to change their mind. Always risk involved, sure, but good sales people and closers can deal with it and still get things across the line.

Don’t you have to pay to terminate your contract?

I would imagine that whoever signs them , will be paying that fee back to the player, no?

In this instance, they're using (or trying to use) a clause which lets them terminate if they feel they are under danger/in harm.

Since they were attacked at their training ground, they should be able to use that clause.

It's actually a huge shame a promising side is going to be torn to bits because of their s******e president.

But of course, FIFA/UEFA are far too conveniently busy to do anything about it.

I’m not sure of the details but I think the clause they used was that Sporting could not guarantee them a safe working environment
I was in Lisbon a week ago and Patrico was all over the news for this very reason.
Don’t think there was any buying out of contracts.
These 3 will be the first of many.
They will be able to get large wages and / or big signing on fees if there is no transfer fee

Not sure they are too busy tbh, they had to do a thorough investigation into a cat running into the pitch recently. Though job.

Who would you compare him to?

Not sure off the top of my head, but not Gana.

He's more attack-minded than Gana.

Good in the tackle but not in the same way that Gana is, in the sense that when Gana is played in the sweeping role, he's very much like Kante in how he always seem to be in the right place to sniff out the danger.

Keita is more about pressing high, lunging in and - if he doesn't concede a foul - playing sharp passes into the front players.

He's also capable of a charging run forward, whereas Gana is very limited on the ball.

I was impressed but not in the sense I thought he'd be worth anywhere close to what the RS have paid for him.

A good player no doubt, though.

I would compare him, interms of style of play, to Radja Nainggolan and Marco Verratti although Verratti sits deeper in terms of positioning.

Yeh Nainggolan's a good comparison actually, in terms of his all-action style.

Hmm, not sure on Verratti though. He's much more a player who can sit deep and dictate the play as you say, but happens to have a bit of bite in the tackle.
