Wildlife in your Garden

My app telling me that we could hear a blackcap in the garden this morning. Seems quite early for them but it’s normally fairly accurate. Haven’t spotted it yet.

Going to start trying to tempt the badger into the garden now it’s lighter nights and leave the back gate open.

Was going to make a new nesting box for the front of the shed but decided on a different approach. I built a box structure on the inside and drilled the hole through the front of the shed. :D
The back of the box is transparent and comes off for easy cleaning.
My first thought was to use glass, but it gives off too much of a mirrored effect so I used the lid from a tupperware storage box which has minimum reflective properties even when backed with a black cover.
Stroke of genious . . . or idiotic idea?
Time will tell I suppose.🤷‍♂️

. . . and the results are in!
It was indeed an idiotic idea/ :lol: 3 weeks after first seeing the Blue Tits entering, I just went to have a quick check on the nest. The whole of the transparent back panel is completely covered with grass/moss etc. I can see no more than I would if it were a wooden panel. 🤣
Made up that they are using it, but a nest box camera is definitely the way forward in future years. :blush:
Ah well. Beer O'clock. :pint2::pint2:

I’ve just put a nest box up for Stock Doves in the woods by us,which involved a bit of climbing - it’ll probably end up getting taken over by those pesky Green Parakeets !

It’s a lot more difficult climbing trees when you’re middle aged, than when you were a kid 😂
