Plenty around here once theyve woke up , next door have built a hedgehog station for them .Haven’t seen a live one in years![]()
Saw a couple last year, usually on the way home late at night. Stopped the car in Belle Vale one night and carried one to safety as it had stopped in the road.Haven’t seen a live one in years![]()
. . . and the results are in!Was going to make a new nesting box for the front of the shed but decided on a different approach. I built a box structure on the inside and drilled the hole through the front of the shed.
The back of the box is transparent and comes off for easy cleaning.
My first thought was to use glass, but it gives off too much of a mirrored effect so I used the lid from a tupperware storage box which has minimum reflective properties even when backed with a black cover.
Stroke of genious . . . or idiotic idea?
Time will tell I suppose.

3 weeks after first seeing the Blue Tits entering, I just went to have a quick check on the nest. The whole of the transparent back panel is completely covered with grass/moss etc. I can see no more than I would if it were a wooden panel.

It was indeed an idiotic idea/3 weeks after first seeing the Blue Tits entering, I just went to have a quick check on the nest. The whole of the transparent back panel is completely covered with grass/moss etc. I can see no more than I would if it were a wooden panel.
Made up that they are using it, but a nest box camera is definitely the way forward in future years.
Ah well. Beer O'clock.![]()
Or a transparent top mate.. . . and the results are in!
