Wigan fans

They were moaning about the price of the tickets, to an FA Cup Quarter Final.

Utter bulbs. They really belong in the Championship.

Ironically, it's their own club's fault the ticket prices are so high.

Rumour has it that Everton wanted the prices to be £20 & £5, as they have been of late, to ensure there was a full house, but because Wigan get a cut of the revenue, Wigan objected to the FA and demanded that the prices be more in line with Premier League prices. Everton reluctantly obliged. Apparently FA rules for the Cup are that both teams must agree to the ticket prices (unlike in the league, where the home team can charge what they like).

It's even more insulting considering how few fans they're bringing. So basically, they expect Everton to fill the majority of the ground, so that they can leech their cut of the gate. I'm guessing this is why JJB Sports went bust and not Dave Whelan (who sold the company before the doodoo hit the fan). That fella doesn't miss a trick.

It's a Premier League rule that clubs have to charge away fans the same as home fans for the same standard of seat.

Well they do. They hit us for top whack and theirs are nowhere near the price. I was gonna go in their end last season and it was about £20 for lad and dad.

I said as much as soon as the prices and 1200 allocation was announced. Take hardly any cos they struggle to shift em, knowing full well that we will sell out, but insist on highest price to bump up your cut. I'll make some enquiries as I'll bet you he has to subsidise those 1200 to shift em, but he'll still stand to gain.

He's a tw@ that Whelan, arrived by helicopter at JJB and screwed them over pennies on a pay rise, hopping round Wigan in a chopper ffs.

If that's true it's an absolute f***ing disgrace.

i remember they filled the old park end ,up stairs and down stairs in a cup game late 70s . must of been best part of 8,000 of the beauts

Pretty sure Oldham are a smaller club than Wigan, and yet they sold 6000 tickets for a midweek game they had a very small chance of winning.

Wigan are one game away from Wembley and they're struggling to sell 3000 tickets. Embarrassing.

Being an Oldham fan i have to disagree, yeah our gates are poor at the moment, having spent 16 years in the 3rd tier of English football can test the resolve of even the most ardent supporter. When we was in the Prem every match was pretty much at capacity, and before we were all seating we attracted gates of 17k+ in the year leading to us getting promoted to the top division.

Wigan were basically a non league club when Whelan showed up, playing at Springfield park, getting gates of less than 2k. If money equals size then yeah i guess they're bigger.

Wigan modelled themselves on Oldham Athletic , they, were formed many years after us, they chose Blue as their home kit, Tangerine as their away kit, just like us. Then chose the name Athletic. Even went as far as copying our nickname Latics. I guess imitation is the best from of flattery.(y)

Wigan weren't a non league club when he took over, Freddie Pye (seriously, no pun)owned them (Bobby Charlton may have been a director?) Whelan only arrived in 95 and they entered the league in 78 after applying to join the scottish league in 72 apparently. 33 attempts at getting elected into the league.

Whelan took them over when they were broke, he'd tried to get on the board of the rugby team but couldnt, they have since gone cap in hand to him, but its the footy team that own the stadium.

Apparantly the wigan team have been diagnosed with mess paranoia by a shrink. They think people are watching them.

Since getting promotion to the league, wigan have attracted thousands of plastic fans. The seats.

I wanted to work out if there was any truth in the rumours that no-one cared about wigan so I rang up their fans club. First thing they said was 'how did you get this number?'.

Some Saturdays, I Like to go to the DW Stadium. I'm not a Wigan fan or anything. I just like some alone time.

After a woman was mugged the investigating officer asked, "Anything you can remember about your attacker will be a great help in our investigation." "There was one thing," she said looking down at the table, "He supported Wigan Athletic." "Oh why didn't you say before?" replied the officer with a smile, "We know him."

How many Wigan Athletic fans does it take to change a lightbulb? Both of them.

"Two's company, three's a crowd" As they like to say at Wigan Athletic.

Victor Moses has played his first game for Chelsea after transferring from Wigan. After the game he said "I enjoyed the game, but who were all those people sitting in the seats around the pitch?"

if they do beats us should give them 2000 tickets 4 semi-final put them in 1 block at the back with nobody near them ****ing woolys.

What part of it don't we know like? They're not a well supported club & never have been

I think the point Pabbers is making is that Wigan have a population of about 80,000 and have only been a league club for 30 odd years. On that basis they do fantastically well and even their crowds are decent in comparison. Although granted - certainly not their away following !
