I have to agree with those who say he was our talisman through some pretty awful times in the late 90s.
I was a season ticket holder back then and it was worth every penny just to watch Big Dunc. You always felt like something was going to happen with him in the team, whether it be a classy goal or just terrorising the opposition, mentally and physically.
I for one would have a Big Dunc type of player back in a heartbeat. Passion, presence and bucket loads of aggression when needed; and sometimes when not needed!
Have to agree with this... we all loved it at the time... would have been boring as hell without him and we would have been relegated!
Can't argue with any of that Papa. This is the big con though.
He had passion and presence when it suited him. This is a massive point for me. His aggression, whilst a useful commodity, was totally misplaced more often than not.
Yeah he would usually turn up against Liverpool, maybe turn up against United and that's about it. In many games he would just amble about, and more often than not wouldn't even be available for selection as he was either injured (hardly surprising if the story is true) or suspended for doing something stupid against one of the "lesser teams" which were the games we needed him the most in.
We all loved him scoring goals and ruffling feathers against Liverpool, but seeing as we were massively crap during most of his spell with us we really could have done with him scoring goals and ruffling feathers against the likes of Derby County, Leicester City and Bolton Wanderers. Clubs who were down the bottom of the league with us, clubs who we desperately needed points from. But no, instead he gets himself sent off because he was a dope who couldn't control himself. Even our best moment whilst he was at the club (The Fa Cup win) he had no input in the semi final and barely touched the ball in the final.
He was a very talented player I reckon, and yeah he gave us some great moments. He is a cult icon more than anything. Certainly not a legend in terms of end results. He gave us a laugh with his stupid antics and some real moments of quality (as he had all the talent in the world).
Give me Kevin Campbell any day.
looks like the oblitiration and annhilation of Big Duncs reputation as an Everton icon is complete, build them up then smash them down,it seems to be the Everton way ?

Totally accept he had plenty of shortcomings that didn't help his career, but you have got to admit he was a player that Blues always looked to stir things up and motivate others, inspirational even ! so think rating him as average is a bit off the mark ?Sadly the Everton way these days seems to be to make icons out of players who have been pretty average for us. It comes with the territory of not winning anything for ages I suppose.

I heard he spat in Martinez’s face and told him he’d shag his daughter if he didn’t keep him on when Bobby was manager lol
Top blue loves the Club would run through brick walls
