Why do Evertonians expect success?

i've played most of my life, to a decent standard at times, coached the game and I'd like to think I understand people and how to manage them in any profession.

Mick I'm not denying he's been good for us but after yesterday it's never been clearer that we're only nearly men. To get a squad thats better than that on the money he's had is amazing, but, the fact remains we have had squads better than that and this is one of them.

He's lacking the last 10% to be a really good manager. Problem is that's the most important. I listed the average league finishes as sometimes it can be worth looking solely at the bottom line.

The 90's was basically 7 or 8 bad managerial appointments on the bounce coming home to roost. There's no reason to think things could be that bad again IMO.

Not sure what that has to do with anything at all mate. Me too as it happens.

Something has happened in my opinion, the players dont seem as together, the manger looks p1ssed off and players have well and truly gone off the boil.

I really do think the farce of January is a massive reason.

The owners are the ones that need pressure not Moyes in my opinion

the main question is though, why do we need that defensive midfielder at home to wigan? I'm happy with gibson when he's 100% because he's not a DM, he plays great football and creates opportunities, he's not your typical sit deep, make tackles and that's all he does. If he's not fit, i don't see the need to play neville or hitz against the ****e teams like norwich, wigan and reading. Especially in the league where they come purely for a draw. You have to send out a more attacking team imo. You have to adapt to certain circumstances sometimes, like ferguson does when dropping rooney against real madrid for a different type of player in welbeck.

Just because it works when we beat man utd 1-0 who come to win, doesn't mean it will work when norwich come and play for 0-0.

The vast majority are blaming the manager here.

But there were 13 or 14 others who are to blame. Not one player really performed well yesterday.

You have to blame the team for not doing what they were expected to do.

That said, a least we made the quarters (better than 15 other premiership teams managed to do). We're still in the hunt for Europe (better than at least a dozen could be said to be).

The slots for being successful in a season a very few and it's always going to be tough for anyone outside the big 4 to be in those winning positions. Better supporting us and we do achieve than some of the others who achieve far less season in season out.

Agree mate.

On that, I do find it odd that we seemingly had £10-£15m in January that went unspent...

I agree, I don't see any problem with having slightly injured players on the bench. If he wasn't fit to start then fair enough. You would think though from what Moyes has said and how he played when he came on that he probably could have started the game. We'll have to see if he plays Saturday.

Well if as Goat says it was a footballing decision I think its a huge mistake obviously. Havent seen that anywhere myself though

You know what, I cant find it, somebody spouted it in a thread and ive taken it as gospel, but I honestly cant find the actual quote anywhere.

The last cup we won in 95, we had a pretty poor team in my view, but still managed to win it cause we had a manager who is a "winner". Moyes is NOT a winner, he had done a brilliant job in getting us top 6/7 finishes, but a winner he isnt.

No - the Everton PR machine had baines saying the current team can't be compared to the 95 team until they win a trophy. Considering how bad the 95 team was in reality it's no wonder yesterday happened with an inferiority complex like that. Do we think this comes from the manager's attempts to 'motivate' them?

Good Lord I thought you were taking the mick. There's actually a post season DVD titled just that.

Despair.

Remember 'off to a flyer'? After a terrible start to the season we won a couple of games in January and released a DVD of them....

Im not talking about yesterday. As I aid earlier if hes taken us far as he can then so be it but I think there are reasons for it.

Look, Im gutted about yesterday- as much as the semi last year because I think out first 11 on their day will give anyone a game.

But the f'ing off of Moyes calling him a crap manager is just embarassing in my opinion.

People saying about Boro, Pompey, Birmingham winning cups and them wanting some of that. A cup over being European contenders and being in the pit of the championship?! Nice one

It's not an either/or scenario for me, nor for many others.

I dont think we had it mate. I honestly dont.

They would have known about Fer's medical history- to agree a fee and then try and renegotiate because of a knee injury that they would have already known about- sounds fishy to me. I think thats why Moyes has decided to leave and that has been the affect on the team.

Of course. Hence the announcement of the deal - before any terms, or before the player had even spoke to the manager (when have we ever done that?)

But Moyes has entertained it, hasn't he?
