I'd give it to Barry when he's back. In the meantime, I'd go with Coleman. Think he has even captained Ireland before so he has some experience with it.

I hope that we don't but he does have an influence on those around him. It's not like we are talking about Baines as captain.
I dont see it myself. I've seen him go missing way too many times when games are going against us. Last two games we concede a goal and then another in quick succession which kills the game. Get's caught arseing round with the ball or under it and just adds to the confusion. He's not influential enough.

It's not his fault, btw. Moyes made him captain when he wasn't captain material, and Martinez was stuck with him from that point because stripping him of the armband wold have been poor politics.

I don't see any genuine alternatives. And do think Jagielka is a good captain. It's not about bawling your head off, he communicates well and has done his part in accommodating for younger players.

McCarthy. He's kind of plateaued in his development the past couple of seasons. Needs a kick in the pants to live up to his potential.

Has Barry been a good skipper in Jagielka's absence ?
For me, it's defo yes.

Without a doubt, with baines being injured he for me was the most obvious (even if baines had been fit in fact). Always liked captains in the middle of the field for some reason.

Baines isn't really a captain type IMO. Although when he wears the armband he does gets stuck in - him getting in Arteta's face when Arteta had that argument with Barkley a couple of seasons ago comes to mind. Get the impression though that he'd prefer to be out of it.

For me too, much better choice than Howard/Baines/Osman especially as the latter two haven't played much.

He seemed to relish the responsibility and he's always been one of our first players to go up to the ref and argue our case anyhow - like the infamous Kev tackle on Suarez for instance.
