@Mitch Ward's Minder @Debaser yeah i thought i forgot Beardsley, turns out he was one of the first on my mind. Lovely player, didn't even mind him being ex-RS he was that good.

In terms of sheer ability it's probably Kanchelskis
Went with Andrei as he's the only player I've seen that scared the absolute life out of the opposition,
Andrei, without doubt.
I voted for Kanchelskis.
Andrei
Not even close, truly a world class player
First thought went to kanchelskis. Our last real match winner
I almost feel sorry for the lids who didn’t witness this man
Kanchelskis is still on another level to any other player I’ve seen play for Everton. I’d have him ahead of Lukaku any day of the week. A proper Footballer, not some one trick pony. He was absolutely devastating.
Andrei the giant
he kind of was actually, it involved blistering pace and a powerful shot, but that trick was so good that for a while no one could deal with it. he lost interest too soon for me to consider him as one of the very greats, but for a period he was good as anything ive seen in blue.

Wow, so much love for Andrej. I liked him but he didn't blow me away as much as most of yous, maybe while like @Kev The Rat says he didn't stay that long, it was really only that one outstanding season when we finished 6th under Big Joe. He moved to Italy tho' not sure why, then I think injuries put a dent on his abilities and he was never really the same player.

Easily Top 10 but I'd have at least Rom, Watson, Arteta & Cahill ahead of him.

Anyway, in all seriousness Kevin Campbell, while Kanchelskis was great KC changed our course in modern history

I don't read the question as who is the most impactful player we've had - just who is the best actual pure footballer.

For me, that means Kanchelskis, then a gaping chasm to Rooney, then yet another gaping chasm to everyone else.

In terms of impactful, I'd agree with you and then probably have the likes of Dave Watson - great pro, decent player, fantastic captain but not a world class actual footballer - higher up that list than one dealing in terms of being the 'best'.

Andrei for me, pienaar should be on that list though

I also like Pienaar but his lack of goals considering his advanced midfield-position stopped me listing him. Tidy footballer, no question. Made Baines twice the player.

Aye, we can interpret best however way we want. In terms of pure football ability I wouldn't rule out Rom so easily: knowing where the goal is is a hugely-valuable and rare skill, plus he's also shown awareness & intelligence in his assist game. It's his infamous first touch which has always been the weak bit.

If ranking based on pure technical ability like you say I'd probably go:

1) Beardsley
2) Rooney 02-04
3) Lukaku
4) Arteta
5) Kanchelskis

And yes, I gobbled up up on as much Everton as I could during the 90's, only tailing off a bit during latter-end of the dour Smith-era. The mass Andrej-love in this thread took me a little by surprise I have to admit, I bet a lot of it has to do with this game (with almost a wonder goal from Graham Stuart too, and Limpar was also very good, probably could've been on this list):
