When I was working and living in Africa, watching kids playing footie in their bare feet on bonehard, grassless pitches was actually quite inspiring.
Their enthusiasm for the game was infectious.

...absolutely. Even in Liverpool of the ‘60s it’s literally all we did (we had shoes,but only one pair). I often think Wayne Rooney is the last of the street footballer generations.
