When Everton made you cry

85 FA Cup Final.

My Grandad (a red supported United and made me lock myself in the bathroom and weep at the full time whistle.

My Gran told him off so that was sound.

He still winds me up to this day hence the derby match day communication ban imposed by my Gran.

When Gary McAllister scored that last minute free kick for Liverpool to win the derby 3-2 at Goodison. I think it was 1999 and I had a tear in my eye.

Also (strange one this) but I think it was only the F.A. Cup 4th round back in 1992 I think but we were trailing 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and we were awarded a 2nd half penalty. I was jumping around the room convinced we would score and turn it around... until my hero Tony Cottee stepped and sidefooted it straight at Kevin Hitchcock. I was bawling after that.

two good ones there for me.

the mcallister free kick was the worst i felt as an adult... i was in a pub in manchester with my bird and a few mates and it just knocked the wind out of me. i could not even see the funny side as my bird tried to cheer me up.

that penno miss at chelsea!! i forgot about that. it was a sunday afternoon when footy was never on tv and never bloody everton. i was so excited to watch that match and when we got the penalty i was so nervous.. but i could not believe he missed.

oh... it's all coming back now... the 6-2 away defeat to villa and then going to school on monday.. horrible to see all those red noses laughing.

Yeah we weren't on TV much back then. Well, no-one was really. Before the Premier League came in ITV used to have "The Match Live" every Sunday and whenever Everton [rarely] were on I'd get well excited. That 6-2 Villa game was one I'd really love to forget. I can still remember my mum kept walking back in the living room going, "Oh my God. They haven't scored again?!!"

Just off the top of my head, I can't think of many games we won on terrestrial TV around that time.... We beat Man City 2-0 one Sunday when Sheedy scored that semi-overhead kick! That was the first time I saw Peter Beagrie's acrobatics too!!

bad-when the [Poor language removed] beat us by the still unmentionable score at goodison:@
good-when we won the cup winners cup and when we beat the [Poor language removed] by the mentionable score line of yessssssssss 3-0(y)(y)(y):D(y)(y)(y)

That'll be me as well.

But not when he scored, when he was walking off the pitch holding the ball so close to his chest, protecting it like it was his own newborn.

last time i really lost the plot was at the end of the match against coventry in 98 when we just stayed up(farrelly scored.thanx bolton btw)

only time in my life ive cried with joy and releif.

Would have to be 1986, when Craig Johnston made it 2-1 to Liverpool. I was a 10-year old Everton fan back then, before I realised I should be supporting my local team, Newcastle. I had seen the 1985 loss to Man United and this was the chance to see Everton win the Cup (I had been a bit too young in 1984). Johnston’s goal was the clincher really. Rush made certain of course, with 6 minutes to go, and I have to say it was a brilliant move with Molby running the show, but it always takes me back to that afternoon’s sadness when I see it. I always remember thinking what would have happened if Southall had been fit, but looking at the goals there wasn’t much Bobby Mimms could have done about them.
