What's wrong with Nikica Jelavic?

A lot of people are saying "1 goal every 3 games is a good record". Yes, it is. However, if you watch some of the matches, he misses far too many opportunities in front of goal, and he is offside far too much. A good example is the West Ham game.

He's a great 'instinct' finisher and at the moment the type of openings we created last season are few and far between....he also works his nads off every game for 90 mins.
Not worried in the slightest.....best front man we've had since the 80's (excluding Andrei who was more of an attacking winger)....keep the faith.

he's a clinical first-touch finisher, and like most if not all of the front men we've had in the 10 years under Moyes, he arrived here playing his own game, and we played to his strengths

1 year under Moyes and now he's running the channels and getting **** all service.

Also our players seem to be ignoring him when he's in goal scoring positions, especially Osman, who will 9/10 times opt to shoot but probably only net 1 or 2 out of 10. Last season Jela was getting fed 4 or 5 good chances a game, and he was converting 1 or 2. This season he's been lucky to receive 1 or 2 decent passes in a shooting position.

I love Moyes, but his handling of strikers has always baffled me.

Bent - brilliant playing his own game in the first season, then moved out wide and lost his place before being sold

Johnson - Looking like the hero we'd been waiting for until he was moved out wide to accomodate Yakubu

Yakubu - Best striker we'd had in years until the injury, was getting back to his best and back to fitness but progressively lost interest as he was constantly dropped for an out-of-form Saha

Saha - could score from just about anywhere around the 20 yard mark, pity he spent most of his time on the wing

Although a lot of the past striker problems could have been attributed to the fact Moyes set the team out around Cahill in the 4-5-1.

Yak & AJ, as well as Yak & Saha were both really good partnerships but only got the chance if Cahill was injured. Beckford/Saha was a decent partnership for a while aswell, but again that was down to Cahill's injury after the Asia cup.

Agree with all of that. Moyes just loves Caution

Jelavic unlucky on a couple of occasions today but also fluffed a couple. I really wish he would sort out his offside problem, he goes off way too often. Hmmm. He's not far away but needs to hit the back of the net again more often. That's what he's here for. A lot more active today than in recent games I thought.

He was desperately unlucky today. The cross from Baines was a peach, the header was just as good, tis just a shame it wasn't a couple of inches lower. He'll be ok I think.
