Back then I liked him because of that. He got mauled by the press which I couldn't understand but also, unlike the rest, I was supporting Uruguay. Just so impressed by their stature as a footballing nation given their tiny population (only a few hundred thousand more than Wales) and Diego Forlan was giving this fantastic swansong, he deserved to go through.

Aye, agree with Uruguay's great achievement. But I was in ZA at the time, with African mates...so kinda got swept up by the whole Africa thing :)

One theory says the illusion of moral superiority supporters have of their teams is the very foundation of sport fandom.

Which I disagree with, I like knowing the imperfections and admitting to weaknesses of myself and my loved ones...that includes Everton.

I don't care what Freud says mate, he was probably a kopite.

Everton are sound and beat teams by the quality of their beautiful togger, or kicking them if need be, we don't need to cheat to win.

Need to define the difference if there is one between cheating and gamesmanship.

For example, the ball goes out for a throw in, and players from both sides will appeal that it's theirs even the player who it hit last will scream at the ref to say it's their ball. Obviously trying to sway the refs decision, is that cheating?

I define cheating in the sense of intentional breaking of the rules punishable by the ref if found out.

Which ones are natural reactions?

Intentional fouls are most of the time (for me anyway), if someone is looking likely to give us trouble and I can't win the ball they get a Del special or dragged to the floor before I know I've done it.

I always claim that something's crossed the line even if I'm not sure as well, don't mean to do it

And I never 'own up' to anything - if the ref doesn't see or give it you get on with the game. I'd like to sometimes, but the rest of the team would give me too much grief.

But I don't deliberately handball it or feign injury because handball just doesn't seem like a natural thing to do, and you have to think about feigning injury. Not sure whether that's cleared anything up at all, but yeah.

whatever the oppo do i don't mind us doing.. Every corner against the hite they were hugging holding us, we just gave them a free run...

aah, good call..forgot about that one. It's definition-wise more gamesmanship than against-the-rules cheating, but it'd be good to have in the poll anyway.

Are you for it? I personally never did it when playing, but I would grudgingly accept Everton doing it if it meant winning a corner and scoring a winner.

I get you...the feigning injury one is dreadful, but thankfully our blues very rarely do that crap. Deliberate handball can happen in a flash, there's more reaction than thought there, but it's still technically a deliberate foul. I'd accept it if it wasn't spotted by the ref and we scored a Henry-esque goal from it.

I voted timewasting minus feigning injury and cheese toastie.

Intentional bookings/fouls are tough. In some sports, it's part of the game, like in basketball. Most others it's considered poor form and an abuse of the rules. I personally would avoid it but I don't necessarily look down on players who do it.
