What football law change would you propose ?

One rule I’d like to see adopted is the concept of “fouling out” as seen in basketball. Never a huge fan of implementing stuff from American sports but I do genuinely think this would be a good idea.

Essentially if a player commits a certain number of fouls, regardless of whether they are only minor ones and where they take place on the pitch, then a yellow card is mandatorily given out. If this continues then a red card is eventually given out. Too many times you either see yellow cards given out straight away which seem very harsh, or you see the total opposite where players rack up numerous fouls and a card is never given (I’m looking at you Fernandinho).

This wouldn’t alter for offences which are clearly either deserving a yellow or straight red card- I just think it would help bring some consistency to the game and help the referees. It’s often referred to in football as the “totting up procedure”, but each referee seems to have different standards for when to dish out the cards for such things. So something like 3 fouls is an automatic yellow, 6 for a red would maybe help that.

Along the same lines I think that too many games are ruined by a sending off.

A red card should mean an enforced substitution rather than going down to 10 players.

What about the sin bin for 10 minutes before a sending off? A lot of cynical and bad fouls get leniently treated in-game. More balance to the aggrieved team against the perpetrating team during the game seems fair.

2 things, taken from other sports.

1. totting up of fouls by one player results in expulsion from the game, as in basketball. Beckham did it at GP in 1997/8, drove me mad, must have committed about 7 fouls, and just got away with it. Ridiculous.
2. what happened to that ‘move the free kick back’ thing, when players continue to argue with the referee? (as in Rugby)

is there a rule coming in next season where you wont be allowed to score from a penalty rebound?? as soon as the pen is either scored or saved the ball is dead.

Stop players, seeing the ball out, especially for a goal kick. You know where they put them selves between the ball and the player, it really slows down the game. People do it to me when I play and it is so annoying.

No it’s a really bad idea that doesn’t take in to account the cultural differences between the two countries or the youth development systems in place.

If we had a great 16 year old prospect would we be happy for him to be transferred to Macclesfield because they had the first draft pick?

It’s actual nonsense.
You are on about a completely different concept that the Peterborough chairman raised last season

I’m talking about a pool of young talented footballers under the age of 18 that would be declaring themselves for prem clubs only and then a draft system / lottery system to determine which player each club gets

i.e jadon sancho, Phil foden, Callum Hudson odoi etc would have been put in a pool of youn players let’s say upward of 60 players and then the 20 Prem sides take turns choosing a player for that pool with the teams who got promoted getting first picks etc.. the club then gets the talented player and can choose to use them or develop them or send them out on loan. It would stop the top teams from stealing all the talented youth players.

Last man offside rule - never liked how they changed it. 7 subs and make it interchange. Injury time only for injuries and changes only when you have the ball.

I think this one is happening but if the ball hits your arm and goes in or it hits your arm and you or a teammate immediately shoots the goal is waived off.

Not sure this is a law change so much as an enforcement change but start giving fouls for grabs, pulls and pushes before the guy dives.
