Really?! Does Dave do it in a way that mocks, or pays tribute to his former employer?
No, worse! It's the exact same!

The speculation when the cryptic writing (haha get it) about this being a RTL cover was that they'd Megadeth-ify it, you know, like Mechanix and The Four Horsemen.

It's more or less a note for note cover with fixed timing here and there, especially for the drums, which ironically makes it sound kind of stale - the energy of the song is very meh, there's no rawness to it, just feels calculated. I'm not talking about vocals here either, I think they actually fit the production for this song specifically (as all Megadeth songs) and I actually like Dave's voice, to go with the massive respect to him for all the problems he had and the fact he beat throat cancer - it's just that it's a stale production. Maybe it will grow on me with time, but I've listened to it several times now and it's all been that way. There's no reverb to the sound, no explosiveness, the small things that made it cool are lacking.

Overall, it's a good cover and I know he said it's so that they go 'full circle' on it as a closing statement of sorts, and the history is what makes this cover interesting, but musically I expected it to be more thrashy and less flat. It says a lot that if you ask for the best cover of a Metallica song that the band made their own I'd probably go for Limp Bizkit's Sanitarium or Korn's One covers from 2003 - it's a different take on a classic song with the band's own touches added.

Lol, ok… I see.

I suppose there’s no more bad blood between him and Hetfield.
(Although, if I had to pick a side, I’d definitely be on Dave’s side 😜).

There's apparently none at this point, and I'm not sure there can be - they (both bands I mean) have both done their own thing, successfully too, and I think Dave's now too old and 'beat up' to care about that, or should be. I hope they do the reverse and Metallica cover a Megadeth song at some point too, would be cool to see/hear too, or have him guest on something or something like that... But that won't happen.

At this point I think it's mostly a fan thing, like the Messi vs Ronaldo crap that goes on in football  They both get asked the question so many times that both bands/members have been very explicit about not answering that type of question or just keeping to a yes/no, which is understandable.

This is a really good interview he did recently too. Sad I won't see them live one last time, but the memory of The Big 4 concert in Sofia is always fresh in my mind, it was a great experience and possibly the last tour where Dave's proper snarling vocals were still strong, Hook in Mouth was amazing to watch live, the end is literal chills. Maybe they'll do a date or two later. Mustaine has also said he wants to maybe do a little solo project, but the last one was "The System Has Failed" so that might mean surprise album too in the Megadeth world:lol:

At this point I'm not sure who's side I'm on - they're all being giant manchildren about it. I kind of get both sides but at some point you surely need to grow up and reconcile, or at least just flat out refuse to comment; in the years of PR's and everything and you can't just say "no" to "do you have any comments about Megadeth/Metallica" when the stupid reporter asks you unprompted?

Lol, that’s true, I guess.

They both their very own distinct styles…

I’d say Megadeath is way more thrashier than Metallica. At least in the early days.

Current days too imo, the loudness wars and overproduction was pretty much started by Metallica. Mustaine is also guilty of the overdigitalisation of mixes but at least they sound more true to Megadeth.

I’ve seen them both live… I enjoyed Megadeth much more.
I have too, on the same date!

When they bow, I'd be slightly off camera to the left, just behind the "VIP" railings, haha.

Liked their part more, it was just cool, didn't need gimmicks, the sound was immaculate, just straight up thrash it was all great. Metallica put on a better show - they still headlined this "non-headlined" event and had the pyro, the effects, smoke, camerawork, whatever for them, and no one else did, it was so weird.

They were in Sofia in 2024 too but I couldn't go sadly. Maybe they'll still surprise us though, the dates past November aren't released and Dave's said he wants to do a several-year-tour, so...

Exactly the same for me… Metallica had more expensive ‘production values’ if you can call it that.
Starting the concert off that whole ‘Escalation of Gold’, and that scene from ‘The good, the bad and the ugly’, when they’re running through all the graves, with a pyro show to accompany it as well… A bunch of stoners behind me going: ‘Whooooa dude! That just blew my mind! Like it’s from a Quinten Tarantino film, or something!’ 🙄

Like you said, Megadeth just got on with show. Straight into the thrash. 😂
