What about Coleman?

Im aware how this will go, but im fairly sure Moist sees how he defends in training.

I don't think Brennan was referring to people who watch him train, more people who have seen the same few fleeting glimpses of him playing at rb so really aren't in a position to be able to critic the defesnive side of the game like they do.

Hibbert played well. I don't understand this line of thinking. Not everyone on the pitch can bomb forward.

Yeah and I agree with his point, nobody on HERE can judge how Coleman plays RB, thats for damn sure.

hibbert was brilliant last season and has started this okay when he's been fit. im all for playing him when we play teams like united and city because it may be a tad risky to play two attacking full backs against such teams. he should be given a go against teams like soton and reading at home though, games we should not just be winning, but winning comfortably.

It's not really about whether he deserves it or not though, it's about putting out the best 11 to win us games.

You could tell Mirallas was crying out last night for a fast fullback who could bomb down the wing for him to play the ball to, Hibbert will never be up to that no matter what his form

Coleman at RB (or another RB being brought in) is the number 1 thing we need to look at to improve our attacking play. Coleman just needs to prove he can handle the defensive side of the game, which he can't do unless he gets proper game time in that position. And i don't just mean 15 minutes against Leeds either, he needs to be starting.

Couldn't agree more mate. Football is about balance. Without a footballing right back, we dont have it.

I don't see how anybody can have a proper opinion about Coleman's defensive ability at RB, he's barely played there.

You're right, I haven't seen him play there all too often. But I know he has. I remember when he came on against Liverpool in the FA cup semi and was ****. Perhaps it was the occasion but that memory is seemingly scarred into my brain. Not to mention his loan at Blackpool, where he looked good going forward but from what I remember, wasn't all too good defensively (I appreciate this was a while ago like).

All in all though, I just haven't seen enough positional sense from him. He's got good control of the ball but runs down dark alleys consistently and doesn't seem to pick the right option for me. And with our system, EVERYONE puts a shift in, closing down, defending (albeit not as much) as he would at RB and I haven't really seen anything outstanding in that department. I just don't think he's up to it, don't kill me.

Hibberts doing what he does most of the time. Pretty solid defending but poor attacking, which is a huge part of a full backs game these days.

Yes, to his credit he appears to have worked on his attacking play but is still poor at it really and you can tell the team know that. Plsu last night he showed his biggest defensive flaw of letting an attacker in behind him as he loses concentration. Luckily they were offside this time.

At one point last night he was in acres of space down the right with literally only their left back between him and their goal, let instead of using him we tried to go left. With a better attacking full back he probably would of been used and something could have happened.

Unless Coleman is completly gash he could have player at rb last night i'm sure, although probably not with Neville and Osman in the middle.

Ummm... We need to find a way to combine the attacking abilities of Coleman with the defensive abilities of Hibbert.
Seamus Hibbert! Would be the perfect RB!

On that logic you'd expect he'd see how Neville and Ossy do as a defensive midfield partnership in training. I like hibbo, he's blue through and through, but it's about what's best for the team, not the individual.

I'm not saying Coleman would have been the answer last night. But at least once Newcastle had our number and stopped us on the left, having better attacking play down the right could have stretched them abit more.

I thought someone made a good point earlier, that big games right now would be a bridge too far for the lad, but in certain game he should be playing RB.

He's young and has a lot to learn, but he's got the best full back in the league to learn from. He deserves to be given a chance.

Though most of his crossing was good last night, and has been for a few seasons to be honest. He's even developed a few silky touches as well.

i honestly cant really remember but i dont think thats a good thing. if he was putting in good crosses i would remember it

Primarily, a RBs job should be to defend and Hibbert does this well. His attacking is average, looks a bit lost at time but can ping in a decent cross every so often. Obviously we'd like a Baines type who could do both attacking and defending but I can't say that Coleman is the answer to that. I genuinely think he's not up to it atm. Maybe in the future but I'm not sure his positioning or tackling is of a standard where he could dislodge Hibbert. Not forgetting Neville has dibs on the position when he doesn't have to massacre the CM role. Maybe League Cup.

everytime ive seen coleman at RB hes been fantastic. but i havnt seen him play there often.

i think the reason we are not seeing him play there is because its just moyes and his favourites like usual

Absolutely! So why they are crying for him to be played there I just don't know. Especially when we have somebody there already who hardly ever puts a foot wrong.
