Is that how far we gave fallen? Resting players against west ham. To be fresh for an all important game against Burnley.

I have some sympathy for Lampard in that there are only maybe three or four players in that side who in any way, shape, or form merit selection. So his hands are tied to a large extent (even if Alex Iwobi should never start for Everton). But making Michael Keane captain is just wilful blindness. I can't even blame Keane for his lack of leadership ability. This is on the manager.

As for alternatives, when you pretty much have a team of timid head-droppers, just give it to the best player and hope their performance can give them moral authority. I'd have given it to Richarlison or the goalkeeper. Both at least seem to have some kind of personality. The rest are just fill-in-the-blank Mr Potato Heads.

I suspect Gordon may simply be knackered as he's been on international duty and prior to that, Newcastle and Palace, he was blowing out of his arse.
